As we draw this academic year to a close, I am compelled to pause and reflect on the journey that we, as the St George’s family, have taken together. A journey marked by perseverance, dedication, and unwavering commitment.

There are several remarkable individuals on our staff who have demonstrated exceptional fortitude. Despite facing personal challenges that could only be likened to walking through the fires of hell, they chose to rise, showing up for the children with unyielding devotion, and taking only the most essential days off. Their resilience and steadfastness are a testament to their character and a reminder of the strength in our community.

It would be remiss not to acknowledge our invaluable PTFA, who have been nothing short of spectacular, and thank you very much to new memebrs who are giving it a go. Thank you so much. The PTFA's tireless efforts in organising fundraisers have taken a significant load off the shoulders of our staff, allowing us to focus on providing the best possible educational environment for our students. We owe you our deepest gratitude.

To our governors, thank you for your strategic oversight, your support, and your security. Your contributions do not go unnoticed. A special acknowledgement to our Chair, Canon Arnold, whose faith is evident in his unwavering commitment to the well-being of our students. He is an embodiment of our mission statement, "be determined and confident knowing God is with you."

This year, we bid farewell to two esteemed members of our community. Anna, a beacon of loyalty and dedication, is retiring after 20 years of service to St George's, with 15 years as a teacher and head of school, and the last five years offering invaluable support in the office. We wish her every happiness in this well-deserved retirement.

Michelle, our former head of school, leaves us to pursue a career as a life coach. Her departure is not only a loss to St George’s but to the teaching profession as a whole. Her unique blend of leadership, empathy, and innovation will be greatly missed.

We also say good bye to Mark, who has decided he wants to work closer to home, and his Parish.

Through all the challenges and changes, St George's has remained a pillar of strength, upholding a successful, fun, business-like, and consistent environment. Our staff have been resilient, and not a single day was lost due to strikes.

We have managed to operate the year with one less member on our senior leadership team, owing to Michelle's maternity leave and subsequent resignation. We once again extend our warmest wishes to her in her new journey.

I must highlight the brilliance that exists within our school. St George's, while not perfect, has an unassailable spirit that seeks to protect and uphold what is unique and extraordinary about our community. It is a beacon of brilliance in Chorley, and I am proud of the school, the kids, the staff the governors, the whole school community. I am proud of my job, and what we acheieve.

As the scripture says in Joshua 1:9, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." This encapsulates our mission and belief, fuelling our determination and instilling in us confidence.

To everyone in the St George’s community, your ongoing support and contribution have been invaluable. We cherish the role each one of you plays in making St George's the wonderful place it is.

As your headteacher, I see it as part of my responsibility to champion and defend our school’s reputation. To that end, I want to finish this letter by sending a resounding message of hope. We are the custodians of the next generation, and together, we can shape a future that is compassionate, bright, and filled with promise, and I will protect the name, it's reputation and what it stands for every minute of the day. It's worth defending.

I look forward to seeing you all next term, ready to continue this fantastic journey together. Until then, I send my heartfelt thanks, extend my hope for a restful summer, and wish you all well. All the best, Andy

A coupe of bullet points:

Sponsor a plot????

Martin and Will Fothergill have done loads of work tidying up the grounds over the last few weeks - they look lovely again, or at least, certainly getting there!

Martin is going to sponsor a bed, free of charge for the next 12 months. He will maintain it, look after it, and advertise his business there! Does anyone want to join him in this community/school project that could benefit us both?

If you wish to try this exciting project email me please - click here. It could be a family who sponsor it, a business, a church - anything, or anyone. You could bring your own style and flair to the school grounds, which could be amazing.... think about it? It could be fun.

Once again it was lovely to see so many of the year 6's children getting confirmed this year. I Have spoken to Mike, and he has confirmed that confirmation classes will resume next year, giving year 5's the benefit of being confirmed should they wish.

As we once again approach the excitement of the end of the year, we have decided to request, as we allways do,   if you don’t mind, that we do not receive gifts from the children. Instead, please, if you think it is appropriate, just call into school and express your thanks verbally, or, in writing! It means so much to us, and we end term with great warm glow!

As we approach the end of yet another year I want to pass on once again my sincere, heartfelt thanks to everyone of our staff who have done themselves, the profession, the school and the kids proud, despite the stresses and strains of day to day life, let alone the lingering stresses that living and working in the COVID environment has brought.

On behalf of all the staff and governors at St George’s thank you so much. And now…. Let’s once again look forward….

To our outgoing year 6 – a massive well done, and an even bigger thank you! You made it! I'm not sure how, but you did! You're amazing, each and everyone of you, and rememebr in the future when things are going not so well, ask yourself a simple questions - can I cope with this. I don't need to like it, but can I cope with it - the answer will always be yes. You've got the Power within you to Thrive on the in life. Promise.

You’re now going to take hold of the tremendous opportunity that secondary school will pose with gusto, with determination…. You have proven yourself whilst in year 6 to be much more mature than perhaps we thought. Much stronger than we expected. And much more resilient than, as adults, we hoped you would have to be at this time. You’ve shown your many many qualities, and you are, I promise, now perfectly equipped to “leg it” into high school and rugby tackle to the ground and flatten any challenges that it sends your way. You can run into high school safe in the knowledge that you are perfect. You are equipped. You’re good to go and fly…. And show the entire world what you are made of.

It is not too dramatic or hyperbolic to say that the children leaving school now are the most confident, the most able, the most accepting and the most enthusiastic ever. They are brilliant, whether 11, or 16. They will go on to achieve great things, see great things and indeed be great “things” I’m in no doubt that this generation of young people are the best that the country has produced. I am proud of them, and I am excited to see what they become.

Massive sincere thanks to the PTFA for organising, as one parent described it, "not a fair, a gala!"

They were ace. Truly tremendous assets to the school. Thank you to you all - to Kelly, Laura, Laura, Jen, Gail, Matt........ the list goes on, and on..... And thank you to you all for supporting the Fair. Well over £3200 was raised, and that is tremendous, and certainly not to be taken for granted.

Thank you once again, very much indeed.

And welcome to the additional memebrs of the PTFA - your'e every welcome indeed!

Can I now express my gratitude to the parents of the Reception intake 2023.

You had a choice. You chose us. Thank you.  A highlight of the last few weeks has been the arrival of our new reception children.

Transition withe Nurseries has been great. We know it is crucially important to get this transition right and we appreciate the support of parents and our Nursery feeder schools in helping make this work so well.

By the way, one child didn't take up their place, so we do have 1 space available if you know of anyone who would like it.

Ready for another year with us?

For those children returning to us, our new term starts for children on Monday 4th September, with kids being let in from 8.45am… see you all then!

Breakfast club will start as usual and is staying in the same room, the hall, and Late Stay will be in business from the first day – as long as your bills are cleared, picking up either on the MUGA, or the hall, again as usual.

Over summer I will update the web cal with dates that I know – so please either sync or set up a calendar app for all the dates of the year.

Lost property will be on the Junior Yard during this week!

Tuesday & Wednesday - have a look for what's lost, what's yours

From Thursday - take whatever fits your child!

Let's get rid of it all!

Recycle, reuse, reclaim!

As the kids move up a year group, there are some changes for the new years 3's.

Remember that you now need to pay for school meals - unless of course you're entitled to FSM. The Universal free school meals only apply to infant kids.

remember to claim for free school meals even if you're in the infants - it does help the school budget out to be honest!

Year 3 School Meals

Leanne and the catering team prove that with the right people, the right determination, and by working together one can make a difference. This year, the number of kids having schools meals has been the highest we've ever known. Its been amazing. They do a stunning job in the kitchen.

As Year 2 children move into the juniors they will no longer be entitled to a universal free school meal. School meals for Junior kids are charged at £2.50 (I think) per day. Junior kids have 4 choices, a meat choice, a veggie choice, a Jacket Potatoe or a grab and go sandwich bag. Your child can choose what they want each day, on the day, or pre book. Kids on school meals are given a coloured wrist band that corresponds to their choice of food....

As implied above,  sadly we are having to increase the cost of things.

In line with lancashire guidance, to break even we are having to increase the cost of school meals. From September school meals will cost £2.50 per day, which to be honest is still very good value. The usual 4 choices are available for Junior kids - we include a sandwich grab and go bag for them to choose from. Children in year 3 onwards choose their meal on the day. The menu is posted on SCO pay

We are also increasing the cost of wrap around care, once again, to cover the increase in salary, and food costs.

Breakfast club will rise to  £5.50

There are 2 charges for late stay - £5.50  if picked up before 4.30pm, and £7.50 for the 5.30pm pick up.

And finally…

As we prepare for next year, may I just remind you of our protocol regarding extreme haircuts, and cosmetic jewellery? I am determined to maintain our high standards at St George’s, to that end; if you intend on letting your child have ears pierced or hair coloured please do so at the beginning of the holiday. (Earrings, indeed any cosmetic jewellery is not allowed in school, and hair should be of natural colour, contain no ‘step’ and shaven no shorter than a number 2 grade.)

Whatever you are doing in the Summer I hope you and your family have a relaxing, safe, enjoyable time, and come back refreshed for a very busy, yet hopefully more predictable year.

May I conclude the letter by thanking you all most graciously for your support, encouragement and forgiveness over the year. I would like to reiterate my thanks to you all. Without the network of positive relationships and trust that we have built between school and yourselves, my job would be a lot harder and the experience of school for our children would be a lot less positive - so let's keep working together and moving forward as one. St George's is a great team and I for one am proud to be a part of it.

May I wish you all a pleasant, calm and relaxing holiday, and I look forward to working with you all again next year. Take care everyone, All the very best,

Andy
