As the calendar turns to March, we find ourselves not only welcoming the hopeful signs of spring but also preparing to celebrate the valour and virtue of St. David's Day. In the spirit of Wales' patron saint, known for his wisdom and, as legend has it, his miraculous deeds, we're reminded of the importance of courage, perseverance, and the power of small acts to make significant impacts.

This week, as we don the leek or daffodil in honor of St. David, let's also draw inspiration from another symbol of strength and resilience: the Gladiators - isn't it remendous Saturday Night Viewing - and for some of us of a certain age.... provides just a touch of nostalgia.  Just as gladiators demonstrated remarkable bravery and skill in the Sheffield Arena, we, too, are called to show our mettle in the various challenges we face, both big and small. But unlike the solitary figure of the gladiator, our battles are fought together, as a community, supporting one another with the compassion and unity that St. David himself preached.

Let's channel the spirit of the gladiators' arena – not as a place of conflict, but as a metaphorical stage where we showcase our teamwork, determination, and the sheer will to overcome obstacles. In doing so, we honour the teachings of St. David, who showed us that even the smallest pebble can make ripples across the waters of change.

So, as we celebrate St. David's Day, let us also embrace the gladiator within each of us. May we face our challenges with bravery, work together with unwavering support, and continue to make our school community a place where everyone can thrive and excel.

Here's to a week filled with inspiration, courage, and the joy of collective achievement. Dewch yn llu, let us go forth in a multitude of strength and spirit.

Kids, are you ready???? You will go on my first whistle....

Warmest wishes,

Andy

In crafting our newsletter, I'd like to highlight the invaluable connection we share with our Governors, who are not just our overseers but integral members of our school's family. Their visit this week, spearheaded by the insightful presentation on Geography by Ange, underscores this partnership. They were warmly welcomed, witnessing firsthand our vibrant classrooms from Years 2, 3, 4, to 6. Their observations revealed a rich tapestry of learning, where hands-on resources, differentiated support, and enthusiastic engagement painted a picture of our educational philosophy in action. From the use of ICT to spark interest to the foundational skills taught through traditional geography tools, their feedback affirmed our commitment to delivering a curriculum that is both challenging and exciting. This visit, aligning with our recent accolades, showcased our dedication to excellence in teaching and learning. Our Governors' acknowledgment of the staff's openness and collaboration reflects the spirit of mutual respect and shared goals that define us. As we move forward, let's continue to embrace these moments of connection, enriching our journey together.

World Down Syndrome Day

21st March – “Lots of Socks”

No charge. No money. Just support.

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), observed on 21 March every year, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.

Down Syndrome International (DSi) encourages our friends all over the world to choose their own activities and events on WDSD to help raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.

Join in with us to create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome on 21 March.

WHY MARCH 21? WHAT DO WE DO?

The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

We would like you to support World Down Syndrome Day. We always do.  So, please, if you wish, wear  “lots of socks” on 21st March. This could be brightly coloured socks, long socks, printed socks, 1 sock maybe even 3 socks.

Residentials

PGL and Bibby's Farm are both on Scopay for parents to make payments. Please speak to a member of SLT if you have any questions about this.

We have a parents meeting at Bibby's Farm for year 2 children and parents on 20th May at 6pm. Please join us to find out about the trip, ask any questions and have a look around the site.

Parents Evening

It will be great to see you all at our face to face Parents Evenings on 18th and 19th March this year. Appointments can be booked via Scopay and will be available from 11am on Monday 13th March to 11am on Friday 15th March. We decided to do two face to face evenings this year as they seemed to be more popular in the autumn term. We are still more than happy to use zoom if this works better for you. Just book your appointment via Scopay as normal and email the class teacher to request zoom.

"In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun" – a gem from the beloved film "Mary Poppins" that captures the essence of our approach at school, and captures beautifuly my leadership style.

As we navigate our educational journey, I've always believed in embedding deeper messages into our daily interactions, whether through my choice of quirky, labeled T-shirts or an informal dress code. These choices are not whimsical but intentional, serving as a canvas to discuss the importance of looking beyond labels and understanding that it's the person beneath the attire that truly matters. A bit like watching the Simpsons - you can watch it at a superficail level, laughing at the surface, superficial, humour, or you can attend and offer thought to the deeper, hidden, covert messages.

However, as we sail into the next few weeks, you'll notice a change in my wardrobe to a more formal attire . This pivot, much like a ship adjusting its sails to meet the changing winds, is a strategic decision aimed at reminding us all of the actual school policies that inevitably we allow ourselves to deviate from from time to time.  It's a visual metaphor intended to remind us all that, while the essence of our journey remains rooted in joy and understanding, there are moments when the seriousness of our commitment to excellence and discipline needs to be underscored.

This period of me in formal dress is akin to tilling the soil—a necessary step to ensure the ground is ready for the seeds of discipline and respect to grow anew. It's a call to action for all of us, a reminder that "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17). Together, we are embarking on a two-week voyage to reaffirm our dedication to the principles that make our school a beacon of learning and respect.

In this spirit, I urge each family to revisit our school's uniform policy, including the wearing of earings, hair styles. This isn't about the fabric of our clothes but the fabric of our character, ensuring that every child understands the role they play in weaving the vibrant tapestry of our school community.

Let us embrace this time with open hearts and a renewed commitment to the principles that bind us. Through our collective efforts, we will continue to build an environment where every kid feels valued, respected, and inspired to reach for the stars.

Thank you for your unwavering support and understanding as we navigate waters of reaffirmation together. Remember, it's not just the direction of the wind, but the set of our sails that determines our course. Here's to setting sail towards a horizon filled with promise and potential.

All the best, Andy
