I guess we saw a couple of predictable bumps in the road this week didn't we as a couple of bubbles popped, although we may actually be able to reopen one in a day or so following a negative test on the PCR.  We always knew it would happen, yet it still works hard doesn't it when we pop. I hope you managed to get things sorted your end without too much difficulty. I await with great eagerness the next level of guidance that will be due once we are 'released.' Expectation is high that there will be new guidance with regard how to deal with cases in school's, maybe a differential between the jabbed and the not jabbed, who knows. But right now we remain, quite obviously on the current guidance, we consult with PHE for every case.

If i'm honest,a bumby week ahead is possible. We have a few kids out on SI due to being close contact with positive cases, a few out for tests.... so I really would just polish up your "bubble closure" plans in tonight's coffee and contemplation time. Bubble closures at this end are a pretty clinical and straight forward process now - they are process led, with little discretion offered to schools. They are a little more difficult when, through no one's fault they come before school starts! I can't help but feel a little frantic as I try and get the message out to you as speedily as possible!

Many many thanks to you all for your commitment to the cause! I really appreciate your sympathy, cooperation and commitment to keeping George's as COVID free as possible, the kids as healthy as possible, and indeed us as free as possible. Many many thanks, Andy.

Sports days are going ahead, albeit a little different - but they are going ahead, and that is brilliant. Although we are allowed to have spectators up to 30, I didn't think it was the best idea - not for COVID spreadage, it reduces flexibility as to when we do them, only 1 parent could come, and for some families that's 4 1/2 days off work, only for it to rain, or us have to cancel because of COVID..... anyhow, they will be lived streamed, largely by Will Fothergill. So, I hope you enjoy them.... it's certainly a step in the right direction!

Of course, as is tradition, kids can wear their coloured T shirt for sports days. We will still add up the total points scored, and we we still present the cup to the winners - so, come on greens!

In other news:

  • I'll make you a promise. If Year 6 have to Self Isolate in the last 10 days as a cohort then we will organise a sleepover, the production and a final day in school for them over the summer holiday. (obviously this is if they have to SI as a cohort, not as individuals!)
  • The year 6 production will go ahead as planned (unless year 6 are in SI). To make this work each child can bring 2 adults maximum, and no siblings. The production will be outside, come rain, hail or shine..... bring a rug or something to sit on! (If you're bringing chairs please bring chairs with curved bases as legs! They can't be traditional 4 legged chairs as they will penetrate the MUGA. We will also facebook live the event for those who cannot attend. It wont be glamorous, it may not even be dry, but it will happen, and it will be memorable, and it will be fun! As an audience, the MUGA will be divided in to 4 groups, each with it's own entrance. You will be asked to show a negative LFD result before entry - this is done by reporting your negative LFD to NHS track and trace prior to arrival at school, and showing me the text or email upon entry.
  • Bees - Well they appear to be thriving, and, touch wood, causing very little inconvenience. They are lovely, if that's the correct adjective, and you can actually smell the honey now. Once again if your child get's stung by a bee we will ring you, and check you're ok with us applying Anthisan, and discuss offering Piriton as an antihistamine.
  • Safeguarding kids doesn't just end when we hand them over to you! In teh summer months kids like to scamper around the plantations after they've been handed over to you; please keep your children in sight whilst on the school grounds.

The Mayor of Chorley comes to our Big Dig
We were very pleased to welcome the Mayor of Chorley to St George's today. He had heard about our Greenhouse project and wanted to come and see it for himself. Today was also our Big Dig day - Mayor Holgate got involved too, digging one of the plots around the KS2 playground! Keep scrolling...

We're looking for 2 welfare staff! It looks like we'll have to advertise in the paper, but I'll try once more across the school community. Welfare role is a great role in school, albeit it does tap into your day! That said, theres no better place to work than a primary school. It's good fun, and a necessary role in keeping the kids safe. As a welfare member of staff you are paid £9.53 ph, excluding NI contributions etc)

If you are interested in joining the squad then please email Sharon using this link.
