5.7.2021

Probably not the best time to conduct a parent attitude questionnaire, but, to help us make sure we’re providing the best standard of education for your children, we’d like to know how you feel about us right now! Whilst I know i can't please everyone all the time, I would like to please you all some of the time, and in essence you chose us, and are entitled to feel well served by us. The results of the survey will help us do that.

The results will help us to:

  • Find out what we’re doing well and where we could do better
  • Decide which areas to prioritise when developing our school improvement plan
  • Make sure we’re meeting the needs of you and your children

Please take the time to complete this survey to help us make our school the best it can be for you.

Replies, of course will be treated in the strictest of confidence, however, if there's feedback around an aspect such of homework etc, then knowing which class your child is in would actually be beneficial (please indicate this in the last question). I would also like to think that our relationship is strong enough for you to be critical, yet open about who you are - thus opening up a dialogue, and sorting stuff out. Theres no value for anyone, me, you, or the kids in letting things fester. Survey Monkey says it will take around 4 minutes to complete the survey! Returns should be completed before the end of term.

Many thanks.

Transition Event

The excitement of the new school year looms with the prospect of new teachers and for the majority of our children, new classmates! To help ease any anxieties we will be holding a COVID secure transition event in school. The children will get to meet their new teacher and see their new classmates while enjoying an outdoor story time and chat. This event will not breach bubbles and will be a great way to help the children look forward to the changes in September. We will hold this event on the morning of Monday 19th July.

I've spent all year not knowing where I am in the calendar and offering parents evening next week does nothing to help me out! Parents evening will once again be held on zoom, and the class teachers will be in touch re admission codes, or I'll put them on the newsletter. However, booking goes live tomorrow at 10.00am. Bookings are made through scopay if you wish to have a parents evening for this year. Reports will also be sent out next week. Happy Christmas Everyone!

Swimming Lessons

How nice to start thinking about things like swimming coming back next year! Swimming lessons next year will take place at Brinscall Baths. Why the change in swimming baths? Brinscall is a smaller venue and so we will have sole use of the pool and the changing rooms which feels safer and is always nicer for those children who may be a tad reluctant.

From September 2021 until February 2022, Year 6 will have their swimming lessons on a Friday afternoon from 2-3. This does mean that they will be a little later out of school than usual on a Friday for this period but we believe the benefits of a more bespoke experience for our children outweigh the slight delay  Then, from February 2022 until July 2022, year 5 will have their swimming lessons on a Friday 2-3pm, the same to apply for dismissal on a Friday.

As of yet we have had no further guidance from the government regarding whole school drop off and pick up times but we are hoping that from September we can return to pre-covid times with drop off at 8:50 (with entry from 8:45) and dismissal at 3:15 (3:10 for reception children). But alas... we must wait for official guidance before we can confirm this.

Two bits of good news here...

Massive congratulations to Beth Makinson who will be leaving us for pastures new in September! Beth has secured her second teaching post in a school in Wigan and we wish her all the very best in her future career!

Huge congratulations to Leanne Cross on her promotion to head of the kitchen staff team here at school!! We are very excited for Leanne to lead us in lots of new kitchen developments .... there will be different meal options available, more flexibiity... not to mention brand new tables for the children to sit at! Lots of exciting stuff happening with school meals next year...

Year 6

Last week I told you I wanted your last memories of your time at St George's to be of fun and good times not isolation... and with this in mind I propose the following...

Bibby's starts Thursday 8th July... if you want to stay at home until then and zoom in for your lessons then please do. If you come into school we will keep everyone strictly socially distanced both indoors and out. That way if anyone does get COVID there will be no need for bubble closures.

After Bibby's we won't be able to maintain the strict social distancing in school for a number of reasons.

1 - you still need time to rehearse for the production...

2 - lets face it - you want to be able to play with your mates at break and lunch in the final couple of weeks of primary school... it'd be pretty miserable end wandering around on your own all the time.

To help eliminate the risk of any further disruption I'd like all your parents to take a lateral flow test before they come to see the production.

We're nearly there kids, let's all do our best to keep the end of year an isolation free zone!

School meals

Parents you must now order your children's school meal via scopay. You just need to put credit on your account and you can order the meals up to the night before your child wants the dinner. Current year 2 parents, as of next year your child is no longer entitled to universal free school meals. Therefore, unless you order meals via Scopay we will presume your child is having packed lunches from September.

Finally, as we approach the end of the year, we would like to express our thanks for all your support this year. It has certainly not been an easy one and at school we have had to make many decisions that we know have at times been inconvenient and at times hard to take but thank you so much for sticking with us and supporting us - it is massively appreciated!  No end of year gifts or tokens are needed or expected by us. Spend the money on ice creams all round and, if you really want to, give us a quick thought in an e-mail but, really, working at St George’s with your children is both a joy and a privilege and we never forget that!
