12.7.2021

It's far too early to congratulate us at reaching the end of term! With 7 days to go there's a considerable amount of work to do, and fun to have! Bibby's Farm was amazing, with Year 6 thoroughly showing themselves, and the school off.

Year 6, and the staff, were great company and provided some real laughs!

Well done year 6, and massive thanks to Louise, and all staff who organised and executed the residential.

A final push towards the end of term - let's try and keep the bubbles secure, and shapely, then, thankfully we can let them float off somewhere far away over the summer holiday. As I look back over the last 18 months I do so with pride. I know it's been rubbish, and I know when we shut bubbles it has implications for you, and your work place - we see that side in school as well, as staff have to go and pick their kids up when bubbles close at the "other side" of the covid chaos. At all times during the pandemic I have had an adamantine belief that we must do what is right for Chorley first and foremost, rather than the school. We have had to close bubbles to stop the spread of the virus around COVID. It would have been so wrong to have turned a blind eye to the odd LFD test, and so wrong to have closed the school for the colloquially called 'deap clean'. We saw that at my poor old school up the road at All Saints', who did close for said deap clean, only to return and close 3 bubbles within 2 days of returning. We have acted at St George's with rapier-like focus on the guidance, whether it be written, or verbal from PHE.

Who knows what the new term will bring? We know kids will be able to play as they did, eat as they did, and enjoy assemblies as they did - that will be ace. I've missed those; oursinging is the envy of other schools! We also know that the flexible start and end sees it's demise, so just a reminder that school starts at 8.50am, with kids being allowed in from 8.45am, and end at 3.15pm (Apart from reception, who finish at 3.10pm) But for now, please, let's put personal difficulties aside, and let's do what's right for the greater good - for The School, and then for Chorley, and let's have one final push.

Guidelines, for now, remain the same.

Hands, face, space, fresh air

Self Isolation for the whole household if anyone has symptoms, or anyone is awaiting results of a PCR

Regular LFD testing - only if you feel in tip top shape, and nothing is wrong with you. If you have any symptoms it's self isolation, and a PCR.

Remember the wider prevalent symptoms that are present in children, rather than adults.

Government guidance, underneath the headlines, actually states "anyone can get a PCR test at any time" And things change all the time, for example Headaches and Runny Noses are strongly linked to the latest Delta variant.

It still matters - The Wider Symptoms of COVID found in kids

Dear friends,

We had a wonderful service with Bishop Julian and 33 candidates; however, due to COVID requirements we had to limit capacity. As a result we filmed the service which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osIBevuxW_E

Additionally from the church.

Here is the link to the free version of our magazine: https://stgeorgechorley.co.uk/news/news_inner/129

And so, let's now turn to the end of term activities for year 6, including the leavers' production, which is this Wednesday, Starting at 7pm.

Which is going ahead, outside, come hail, rain or shine. We do need to be courteous though, forgiving, encouraging as we make preparations for the event.

Kids

Arrive back at school for 6pm. Enter through front door.  Go to your classrooms

Parents

Well we're allowed 2 guests per family max. (Children outside of the year 6 performers count as a guest) Which is 80 adults. The rules state that you can have "multiple groups of 30, as long as the bubbles don't breach" So I will be like Gordon Brittas on the night, as you rock up, you will be placed in bubbles, please keep socially distant within your bubble, and please, to keep us legal you must not mix between bubbles....

We will enter through the car park, and you will be told which bubble to go to. A member of staff will direct you. Please bring your own chairs (remember legs must be curved, or bring some coasters to prevent chair legs penetrating the MUGA.

All guests, not children, must complete a lateral flow test before attending school. You will be asked if you have done this.

And of course, if you have any COVID symptoms then please do not attend. The event will be streamed via the YouTube account. It will also be recorded with the link placed on facebook after the performance for you all to enjoy!

If the weather is inclement, we will still be performing, so please come dressed appropriately; I will be bringing an umbrella!

It is compulsory for you to wear a mask at all times when moving around. Masks can be removed when seated.

(please note, as you will see from the events section, we have cancelled the Year 6 visit to church....Apologies)

The event will be shown live on youtube following this link. It will go live at 6:30 on Wednesday night, you'll be able to view the whole thing online using the same link shortly after the live event has finished.

It's the year 6 sleepover on Monday, and I think we'll do the surprise Pizzas on Monday. So kids, come to school on Monday as normal, we'll send you home, then come back to school for 6pm. We'll get the pizzas in, chill on the MUGA, watch a film, then go to bed. This will then roll into a blessing on the MUGA on Tuesday. The kids can have breakfast in school. Parents can join us for the blessing from 8.30am, on the MUGA, wearing masks at all times and keeping socially distant. After the blessing if parents could take the kids sleeping kit home please, which will be on the MUGA.

As we approach the end of the year, we will be archiving this year's Seesaw classes ready to move the children on for next year.  You will still be able to see your child's work using the family app but you can also download their learning journal using the instructions below.

Finally,

Can you check your SCO accounts please…. As we approach the end of term please ensure all payments are made—including breakfast club, and late stay. As you know should debts not be paid off by the end of term, then you will be unable to access the service after summer.

Year 6 parents - can you please clear all your debts please, including those who haven't yet paid for Bibby's Farm!

Any credits we hold will be carried over to the next academic year, where hopefully we'll be safely able to carry out the odd trip or two, without any uncertainty!

And as you now know, as we approach the end of the year, we would like to express our thanks for all your support this year. No gifts or tokens of appreciation are needed or expected by us. Spend the money on ice creams all round and, if you really want to, send a quick email to the staff but, really, working at St George’s with your children is both a joy and a privilege and we never forget that.
