How good was Martin Mere! It was superb. Thank you very much indeed to all the "parent" helpers - we genuinely couldn't have done it without you. It kick-started the term brilliantly and will become a new school tradition. It was a great way to clear the cobwebs of Covid away, cement old friendships, and make new ones. I also want to say that Tyres coach company were also brilliant, and helped the day run so smoothly! My thanks also go to the staff at Martin Mere who helped me organise the trip.... it was great, and dare I say it, just what we all, adult or child needed.

That said, despite us now learning to live with Covid, the clouds of doom are not too far away, and things can't be as certain as they were pre Covid.  We are under new guidance at school that we're all getting used to, but in summary.

  • First thing to remember is if you, or your child is symptomatic you must still self isolate, and book a PCR test.
  • If there is a case in your household that doesn't affect St Georges kids then technically the children can still come to school. It is my preference that if a member of your household has COVID, then they are deemed  then you keep your kids off with you. However this isn't government guidance, or indeed always possible. In these circumstances your child can come to school as normal, but please complete daily LFT's.
  • When there is a positive PCR case in school we will let you know via text. It will then be your decision as to whether you deem your child to be a "close contact" in which case you book a PCR test. (in these situations your child can come to school whilst awaiting the results.)

If there is an "outbreak" in school which is 5 cases who are likely to have caught in via "close contact" routes in school, the I will take further measures that will involves the return to bubbles for that class for a period of time. At this stage I will also be in contact with PHE for further guidance.

My guess for next week is with case number rising in school we will reach "threshold" point next week, and I will be putting individual classes into bubbles for 10 days. That doesn't mean we will be "closing bubbles" as we used to. We're a long long way off that, unless we have an outbreak amongst staff.

I know it's hard, but as one precautionary measure, please do continue to wear masks on the school playground.

May I continue by passing my thanks to all involved with the blessing of the bags at church. I thought this was a lovely service, and we at school look forward to taking part and supporting future services! Well done Mike!

Have a great week folks, take care

Shout out to year 4 –6. MIss Horder’s entered us into Young Voices Choir. More details can be found here. Miss Horder has it all in hand this year. The choir will be capped at 45, tickets from parents will be at your cost, but school will buy the children’s. It should be a cracking experience—genuinely, and I’m looking forward to it. Have a look at the website and offer some guidance to your child if you don’t want them to sign up.

The concert is sometime in February, with tickets being purchased nearer the time.

If you wish your child to attend the club please sign up via your SCOpay app. The club will start on 4th October, 3.15pm - 4.15pm. Where ever possible the club will be held outside. However when the weather is inclement the club will be held in the year 6 resources area, with children being dismissed onto the Junior Playground.

Quickies…..

Head lice are around us. Click on this hyperlink on best treatment from NHS England.

Please now remove all holiday hair, earrings and holiday nails… the 2 weeks ’grace period’ lapses today. (please also note, hair is to be cut no shorter than number 2, and should not contain a step.)

An unfortunate reminder to parents of children in Year 3…. If your child is having a hot meal from the kitchen, and why wouldn't they, then, alas, they are chargeable now. You pay for meals using your scopay account.

The SIMS litre app instructions are attached to this newsletter. Your personalised sign up link will be emailed individually after this newsletter - you may need to check you spam folders.

Re late stay or breakfast club - to book your child into wrap around services please either leave a message on the phone, using option 3, or text the late stay phone, which is still in use, but eventually will be dis continued. Please note, we don't reply to your messages re late stay - please just consider it done! We always over staff late stay that we can accommodate the kids.

School APP—Calendar/dates should now be reasonably spot on. And now the only excuse for not knowing something is me causing confusion by putting 6 different start dates and times!

Download the “school news” app

You should be able to find and subscribe to the school within the app by searching for its postcode (PR73JU)- alternatively, when you are logged in on the site, if you go to 'Connect' on the orange bar along the top of the screen, then press 'App', this will allow you to access the app's settings.

Choose St Georges Primary School

The app will have sections for News, Events and Albums, perhaps most importantly you’ll be able to see all the calendar dates—as well as having them synced to your phone.

The app, should you subscribe will send you push notifications as we add and change things, again, this should hugely improve organisation and communication. To the point where I think we can tick it off! job done!

School Council, Ethos Group and Eco Team

Three wonderful opportunities for your child to be involved in school! All three groups are open to children in Year 2 and above. Each class will have up to 2 representatives for each group. The applications for Ethos Group and Eco Team have gone out tonight and need to be in by Friday please. You are welcome to discuss your child’s answers with them and assist in filling out the form if appropriate. School council is slightly different – the children will be taking place in a ballot on Friday – they should come to school with some prepared reasons why they should be in school council, ready to share in front of their class.

Want to know more? See Tom Norris for School Council, Naomi Harrison for Ethos Group and Charlotte Brown for Eco Team.

Not only is anonymous Sarah now employed by the school, has transformed the school grounds, with your help of course, but has now earned her rightful place on the newsletter!

So in Sarah's own words, please sign up and shop at Morrisons to collect lots of gardening equipment.  We currently have 108 vouchers and 34 collectors, so thank you to everyone who has signed up so far.  (I’ve attached a poster advert for this!)

In garden news, we have been approved for 420 fruiting hedge trees from the Woodland Trust and we will be having another Big Dig event in November once the trees arrive.  We are contributing to the 116, 875 trees that Chorley Council have pledged to plant across the borough to combat the current climate emergency and it should increase the diversity of the wildlife that the children can spot around school!

Thanks
Sarah

Have a wonderful week folks, take care,

Andy
