22.11.21

It was great to have parents back into school for one of our parent's evenings last week. The hybrid format of zoom and face to face appointments seemed to work well with most classes having quite an even spread across the two nights.

Feedback from the parent's evenings so far seems to have been very positive which is a great morale boost for the staff and is greatly appreciated - sincerely, thank you! However, if you do have any comments on ways in which we can improve the structure or organisation that you wish to share with us, we always welcome feedback - please pop us an e-mail or give us a call.

It's so important that children see parents and school working together, our job is extremely difficult, if not impossible if support from home isn't forthcoming.

Not only do we have a great set of incredibly supportive parents that work with school and not against us, we also want to thank you for your patience last week when a technical error at Scholastic rendered our book fair inaccessible an hour before it was due to take place.

A massive thank you for your kindness and patience. The link where you can order books is available until Wednesday. For every £1 you spend, school get 20p to spend on books from scholastic.

So if you think any of your friends or family may like books for Christmas - please consider using the link below...

Book Club

I know it is only November and Christmas is quite a way off but there is lots to update you on and potentially a few dates for the diary so here goes...

Christmas Fair

The Christmas Fair will be held on Monday 6th December starting at 6pm.

On the night please enter the school grounds through the junior yard gate. There will be a member of the PTFA to welcome you and take your admission fee/programme.

Sadly we don't have a card machine in school so please bring cash along, preferably in change.

The Christmas Fair will be in the style of a Christmas Market - there will be stalls and marquees outside on the junior yard and on the muga.

Refreshments will be served in the hall. Please enter school via the hall door and leave the hall via the door to the library area, heading upstairs (where year 6 games will be located) and leaving school down the slope returning to the junior yard.

Raffle tickets will be coming out soon. It could be the end of this week or the beginning of the next week. The eldest child in each family will receive an envelope containing raffle tickets. To purchase these, please return the tickets to school in a named envelope with the correct money. The raffle tickets are £1 a strip. See facebook for our absolutely stunning raffle prizes... garden furniture set anyone?!

The PTFA have been hard at work organising stalls and sourcing some genuinely brilliant raffle prizes - we are blessed to have a brilliant PTFA and our massive thanks goes to them for all their work organising this event.

Non-uniform day this week and next week Friday 26th November & Friday 3rd December, please bring prizes for the stalls. Bottles/chocolates...

Year 2 Christmas Nativity

On Wednesday 8th December, Year 2 children will performing their Christmas nativity 'Lights Camel Action!'

Due to the size of the hall, we are only able to accommodate two adults per child to attend in person to watch the performance.

Siblings, grandparents and extended family are able to watch from the comfort of their homes as the performance will streamed via Facebook live. This can be watched as it happens or enjoyed later at a time convenient to you.

For those adults attending, we understand this may be the first nativity your child has been in and it is very special time. However, we ask that if you do record the performance, that it doesn't get shared with anyone else or posted on to any form of social media.

If you are attending we ask that you please do an lft test in the 48 hours before the performance and we that you wear a mask until seated.

When seated, you will be able enjoy a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine while watching the show!

Year 5 Christmas Nativity

Year 5s Christmas story performance will be held on Tuesday 14th December 7:00pm-8:30pm at St George's Church.

In pre-COVID times, years 3, 4 and 6 would also come to Church to form the choir. This year, as we ease back into times more normal, and after working closely with the Church, it has been decided that children in years 3, 4 and 6 are welcome to come to Church but will be asked to sit with their family and enjoy the show.

If you prefer to watch from home, there will be a youtube link to the filmed dress rehearsal which will be uploaded at 7:00pm, just as the show starts in Church.

So that they don't miss out on the festivities, years 3, 4 and 6 will be putting together a Christmas video production which will go out to parents and families before the Christmas holidays.

Christmas Carol Café Afternoons

This is a new addition to our Christmas festivities this year which is quite exciting!

Reception and Year 1 will take centre stage in a carol singing performance. Reception's performance will be on Thursday 9th December and Year 1s will be on Friday 10th December. Both performances will begin at 1:30pm and will last for approximately 30 minutes.

Due to the size of the hall, we are able to accommodate two adults per child to attend in person to watch the performance. Siblings and other family are able to watch from the comfort of their homes as the performance will be streamed to facebook live. This can either be watched as it happens or later on at a time convenient for you.

For those adults attending, we understand this may be the first nativity your child has been in and it is very special time. However, we ask that if you do record the performance that it doesn't get shared with anyone else or posted on to any form of social media.

If you are attending in person we ask that you please take an lft in the 48 hours before the performance and that you wear a mask until seated.

When seated, you will be able enjoy a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine while watching the show!

Paperless Christmas Cards

As part of our drive to become a more environmentally friendly school, we ask that this year you refrain from sending Christmas Cards from your child to their classmates into school.

As well as being not the most environmentally friendly, they can become a bit of a time drain on staff in school, especially for children in the youngers years.

Instead we ask that if your child wishes to create a Christmas card for their classmates, they log onto purple mash and create an e-card!

Each class has a virtual display board created that your child's card will be added to. Teachers will share this display board with the class during Christmas Party Day!

It may work... it may not... but let's give it a go. We can always go back next year if it's rubbish!

Please watch the video below for instructions about how to create a Christmas Card on Purple Mash.

Permissions for filming

Recently it has become the norm to film things that go on in school so that you can enjoy it at home. Some of our children can't have their pictures on facebook for a variety of reasons. However, there has been instances where children have been excluded from filming/pictures for facebook due to out of date permissions. Please make sure your permissions are up-to-date.

If you are unsure check the parent lite app. Our facebook page and youtube are secure and can only be accessed by parents and supporters of the school who have been vetted and admitted by SLT.  If you have any questions about this please contact Sharon or Anna in the office.

The return of cookery classes by Prags

Back by popular demand, Prags is once again going to be zooming out to you at home helping you make a gorgeous meal for a Friday evening!

Prags will be running one cookery session per half term - this half term's date is Friday 3rd December.

If you would like to take part in the zoom cookery class, please log onto Scopay and book on. The session is £7.50.

The cookery session will only go ahead if there are 15 families wanting to get involved.

Please sign up by Friday to secure your place. Packs of ingredients will be brought to school next and given out ahead of the class.

This morning was the first frost of Autumn (or at least the first I have seen)... and I had to defrost my car for the first time.

It was quite tempting to fall into the dreary 'winter is nearly here' gloom. However, I realised that it was my adult brain talking... if you look through the eyes of a young child, a frosty morning with a beautiful pink sky is just magic... and when I realised that, suddenly the day seemed much brighter.

Have a wonderful week.
