Following Saturday's COVID announcements, the plans for the Christmas fair and class performances/events remain the same as outlined on the newsletter last week but we will keep it all under review as the COVID response from Government develops...

*Christmas Fair Sign Up*

If you are able to lend a hand at the Christmas Fair, please use the form below to sign up to help run a stall:

Christmas Fair Stall Sign Up Link

Click the link and follow the instructions. Many thanks in advance for your support.

The Christmas Fair will be held on Monday 6th December starting at 6pm.

On the night please enter the school grounds through the junior yard gate. There will be a member of the PTFA to welcome you and take your admission fee/programme.

Sadly we don't have a card machine in school so please bring cash along, preferably in change.

The Christmas Fair will be in the style of a Christmas Market - there will be stalls and marquees outside on the junior yard and on the muga.

Refreshments will be served in the hall. Please enter school via the hall door and leave the hall via the door to the library area, heading upstairs (where year 6 games will be located) and leaving school down the slope returning to the junior yard.

Raffle tickets will be coming out soon. It could be the end of this week or the beginning of the next week. The eldest child in each family will receive an envelope containing raffle tickets. To purchase these, please return the tickets to school in a named envelope with the correct money. The raffle tickets are £1 a strip. See facebook for our absolutely stunning raffle prizes... garden furniture set anyone?!

The PTFA have been hard at work organising stalls and sourcing some genuinely brilliant raffle prizes - we are blessed to have a brilliant PTFA and our massive thanks goes to them for all their work organising this event.

Non-uniform day this week and next week Friday 26th November & Friday 3rd December, please bring prizes for the stalls. Bottles/chocolates...

Year 2 Christmas Nativity

On Wednesday 8th December, Year 2 children will performing their Christmas nativity 'Lights Camel Action!'

Siblings, grandparents and extended family are able to watch from the comfort of their homes as the performance will streamed via Facebook live. This can be watched as it happens or enjoyed later at a time convenient to you.

For those adults attending, we understand this may be the first nativity your child has been in and it is very special time. However, we ask that if you do record the performance, that it doesn't get shared with anyone else or posted on to any form of social media.

If you are attending we ask that you please do an lft test in the 48 hours before the performance and we that you wear a mask until seated.

Year 5 Christmas Nativity - In more detail...

On Monday 13th December, the children will come to school as normal but will be walking to Church at 11am to practise their production. Please could all year 5 children bring a packed lunch to school on that day please.

On Tuesday 14th, please could all year 5 children be dropped off at Church in the morning for their final dress rehearsal. Church doors will be open at 8:30am.

Could the Year 5 children please be back at Church in the evening of the 14th at 6:30pm for a 7pm start.

Parents and children from all year groups are welcome at Church to watch the performance. Please wear a mask in the Church and follow the Churches social distancing guidelines.

If you prefer to stay at home you can join us via a youtube link that will go live on our St George's Youtube channel at 7pm.

In the run-up to Christmas, we wanted to host a ‘fun’draising event to get the whole school moving and excited about the run up to Christmas.

So, over the next 4 weeks (between the 1st December and Christmas Eve 2021), the whole school will work together as a team to walk, run, cycle or scoot the equivalent distance to the North Pole from Chorley (2500miles!).  Most of the miles will be done in school as part of the daily mile and PE sessions, but we’d like to encourage the children to earn extra miles on the walk to school or as part of family days out!  You can send in the paper slips which have been sent home today to provide any details of any miles done at home, and please feel free to share any pictures on the School Facebook Group.

Miles will be recorded by the classes each week and we’ll have a tracker available at https://reindeer-runner.web.app/st-georges so everyone can see how far each class has travelled and how many miles there are left to go!  We’ll update on progress via our Facebook Group and in the school newsletter.

For completing the challenge, all children will receive a special medal as a special reward for their efforts.

We appreciate at this time of year, money may be in short supply, but any sponsorship raised from family and friends would be most gratefully received and will go towards funding a school wildlife pond with a dipping platform and hopefully our own school ducks!  Please feel free to share the link to our just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ptfa-stgeorges  or share the QR code above on your social media etc:

Christmas Carol Café Afternoons

This is a new addition to our Christmas festivities this year which is quite exciting!

Reception and Year 1 will take centre stage in a carol singing performance. Reception's performance will be on Thursday 9th December and Year 1s will be on Friday 10th December. Both performances will begin at 1:30pm and will last for approximately 30 minutes.

Due to the size of the hall, we are able to accommodate two adults per child to attend in person to watch the performance. Siblings and other family are able to watch from the comfort of their homes as the performance will be streamed to facebook live. This can either be watched as it happens or later on at a time convenient for you.

For those adults attending, we understand this may be the first nativity your child has been in and it is very special time. However, we ask that if you do record the performance that it doesn't get shared with anyone else or posted on to any form of social media.

If you are attending in person we ask that you please take an lft in the 48 hours before the performance and that you wear a mask until seated.

When seated, you will be able enjoy a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine while watching the show!

Paperless Christmas Cards

As part of our drive to become a more environmentally friendly school, we ask that this year you refrain from sending Christmas Cards from your child to their classmates into school.

As well as being not the most environmentally friendly, they can become a bit of a time drain on staff in school, especially for children in the youngers years.

Instead we ask that if your child wishes to create a Christmas card for their classmates, they log onto purple mash and create an e-card!

Each class has a virtual display board created that your child's card will be added to. Teachers will share this display board with the class during Christmas Party Day!

It may work... it may not... but let's give it a go. We can always go back next year if it's rubbish!

Please watch the video below for instructions about how to create a Christmas Card on Purple Mash.

Permissions for filming

Recently it has become the norm to film things that go on in school so that you can enjoy it at home. Some of our children can't have their pictures on facebook for a variety of reasons. However, there has been instances where children have been excluded from filming/pictures for facebook due to out of date permissions. Please make sure your permissions are up-to-date.

If you are unsure check the parent lite app. Our facebook page and youtube are secure and can only be accessed by parents and supporters of the school who have been vetted and admitted by SLT.  If you have any questions about this please contact Sharon or Anna in the office.

The return of cookery classes by Prags

Well, apparently this wasn't by popular demand! There was only 1 take up for this club, so we've cancelled it....... we'll try again in the new year!

Class 7 are off to St James's Church on 9th December. This is a lovely opportunity to build links with another local church and for our children to experience something a little different. St James's are putting on a prayer experience centred around Narnia.

Class 7 will walk to and from St James's, accompanied by Mrs Makepeace, Mrs Miller and Mrs Harrison and will be back in school before lunch. Should you have any questions or information regarding your child attending this event please let us know.

May I conclude by passing on my massive thanks, and congratulations to Michelle at St George's, and Antonella at Mossy for their efforts, and successes in maintaining the very smooth running of the schools during my absence. Indeed my thanks go to you all. It was just as it should be - carrying on regardless.

Humongous thanks to the PTFA who have been absolutely magnificent in their efforts in organising the fair. I really do hope it's a resounding success - they certainly deserve it to be. So come on folks, bring your friends and family, and lets have a great time, good laugh, and raise a fortune...... before Omicron hits us.....

All the best folks, have a great week,

Andy
