Happy New Year

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, and are ready to face the challenges that the New Year will undoubtedly pose, and hope you are also excited about the joys it will also bring! Once again, the term has started superbly well with the children enjoying the panto, Snow White—always a tremendous way to start my favourite term! Apologies for the lack of communication about dressing up etc.... my fault!

In addition, this term is a great term as the staff all know the children very well and this is where the progress really becomes noticeable.  Curricular letters and Home Learning Menus will soon be coming home soon; do take time to look at these to see what is happening with your child’s learning this year and explore ways in which you can enhance this at home.  (theyre also a great fall back for COVID absence.) As ever, if you need any more information, don’t hesitate to come in and see us.

Happy New Year from myself and everyone at St. George’s.

Andy

Keep SIMS lite up to date (email Sharon or Anna if you're struggling with this APP!)

School Uniform

This is something I try to make as easy, and cheap as possible. Over Christmas we checked out different APPS etc for recycling but they were all hard work, so we're going to try something in school.

Sharon has bought several large plastic boxes that we will label up and put in the Chalet. Each box is ready to receive good quality, but no longer needed uniform. There's a box for pretty much every item. So, please, when you have finished with the uniform wash it, iron it, recycle it. Please just go and hand it, or place it in the chalet when you are dropping the kids off. So please, feel free to help yourself to anything in the boxes free of charge. Its the way forward. I'll let you know when the boxes start filling up. Please join this worthwhile recycling project.

In addition, remember you can now order uniform from 2 authorised locations. Either Price and Buckland, using the link from the website; convenient for home delivery, or from Jada, in Chorley, convenient for instance purchase, and for trying on!

Movie Night, from Mr Norris!

School council will be working hard over the next few weeks to organise their annual movie night which will be taking place on Thursday 27th January. Due to covid-19 and the great success of the revamped movie night last year, it will once again take place in classrooms. Children are invited to stay in their classroom after school on this date and watch a movie with their classmates. School council will be handing out cinema treats too.

Parents - please pick up your child between 5:45 and 6pm from the same place that you would normally collect your child at the end of the school day.

Tickets for Movie Night 2022 will cost £2 to cover the cost of the snacks and to help raise some money for the school. This can be paid through Scopay.

Many thanks for your continued support and School council cannot wait to see lots of you there.

*Please note all other clubs are cancelled for this evening.

SNOW/WINTER WEATHER PROCEDURES

Kids of 2022 will never have another Snow Day! And that's actually sad isn't it. I have fond memories sledging down a variety hills in deep luscious snow.... the reality was probably very different, but henceforth, the reality is even more "depressing" as we will in fact revert to Zool! Should the snow come… I will predominantly keep you posted of the state of affairs via facebook. Emails (if possible) will also be sent, and the school website – front page, latest news…. this will take you to the Snow Blog! We encourage you to use these as your initial ports of call should you need clarification on school opening. And if school is closed, then teachers will have the 1st day of school closure to set up zoom codes etc, which will be sent via Seasaw, and then from day 2 Zool (zoom school) will start!

That said, I will endeavour at all times to keep the school open; this isn’t just dependent on my decision, but also whether we have enough staff in school, not just to keep the kids safe, but to educate them! And teacher attendance isn’t a reflection of their dedication or determination to get to work – for some people this is their default assumption. We must acknowledge that we have staff who travel further! It was only a few years ago when I was the furthest commuter – from Wigan! Now though I’ve moved, Emma, and Michelle travel from the Sefton area, Nic travels from Preston,  Naz from outer Manchester, and, well Louise just doesn’t drive in the snow! That said – I will do my very best to keep the school open at all times.

Should snow be heavy please let’s use common sense – a very underrated ability of human beings. The yards, paths and roads will be slippery… take care, and if you judge the journey to work to be too treacherous… don’t make it. Safety must at all times be paramount.

For your convenience, and in the spirit of the team work between home and school, when we do have snow difficulty remember we do keep the registers open until 10:00am… so please… keep safe.

Mrs C is saying....

A MASSIVE thank you to  the children for completing reindeer run. You were amazing, and so far it has raised £325
Can you please ask that any other sponsorship monies are returned by Friday?

Big Dig - 3rd February. All Day.

We need lots of adult helpers to support this event on the day - date to be organised at some point soon! We have 420 fruiting hedgerow trees to plant. The eco-council have been working hard learning all about how planting trees and hedgerows combats pollution, provides habitats for our wildlife and will feed both our birds and bees and school.
