Newsletters

15.7.2022 Appendix A

{alt_tag}

Good morning folks, may I write an appendage to Fridays already mammoth newsletter. Its amazing actually how much newsletters structure what we do in school, as much as what we do at home. For those of you who have been with us a few years you know i always base newsletters on the previous year, hence the occasional confusing date discrepancies!! However I've lost that ability now with the last couple of years being covid led, so im writing a fresh set! This has led to a couple of traditions have been forgotten, and also I want to update school's position re this week's heatwave.

As we once again approach the excitement of the end of the year, we have decided to request, as we alllways do,   if you don’t mind, that we do not receive gifts from the children. Instead, please, if you think it is appropriate, just call into school and express your thanks verbally, or, in writing! It means so much to us, and we end term with great warm glow!

Year 2 School Meals

I said a bit about school meals on the newsletter proper, mostly, quite rightly, hailing The Teams successes. Leanne and the catering team prove that with the right people, the right determination, and by working together one can make a difference.

As Year 2 children move into the juniors they will no longer be entitled to a universal free school meal. School meals for Junior kids are charged at £2.40 (I think) per day. Junior kids have 4 choices, a meat choice, a veggie choice, a Jacket Potatoe or a grab and go sandwich bag. Your child can choose what they want each day, on the day, or pre book. Kids on school meals are given a coloured wrist band that corresponds to their choice of food....

We have decided, to do our bit to ease any COL issues not to raise prices for this academic year. Prices for all chargeable events, school meals, breakfast club, late stay will be reviewed in 12 months time.

According to the forecasts we're due some hot hot hot weather this week. As always during unprecedented times we will work with you.... We will do everything we can do to keep the kids comfortable, for example sitting and chilling in the plantations at lunch time, rather than the MUGA etc. You do the same. If you have cooler clothes you want to send your kids in, then feel free to do so. Send them in with a hat, and most importantly a water bottle! Drink drink drink. and we'll be fine. If you would prefer to keep your kids off on Tuesday, then that will also be authorised. The most important thing is for everyone to keep safe. That is the overwhelming priority, and the only rule. Normal service will resume on Wednesday, when it will probably snow!

I think at St George's we do have systems, and uniform that we do adhere do, and want to adhere to, but we always inject common sense, common courtesy and take a common approach to adverseties. We'll be fine. Let's enjoy this new experience of blistering heat. Any questions, email me, email your class teachers, or ring the Duty Phone.

Another summer time helpful link if you need....

Summer Reading Challenge This summer we are encouraging the children to sign up with their local library and get involved with the Summer Reading challenge. Follow the link for more details and lets see how many books we can read over the summer. http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/libraries-and-archives/libraries/ reading-journey/

We have now concluded all internal, and national tests, and I'm delighted with every single result. The results show the tremendous impact of our work at Georges, right through from Baseline, to year 6. Well done to you all kids. You have all done very well, in the words of Mr Grace, for those of you who are old enough. I am reassured that measures we put in place, and still have in place are slowly plugging the COVID gaps. These measures will be in place at least for next year as well.

I am tremdously proud of our year 6's who, after a 2 year void, stormed through their SAT's. Folks, if I may say so we won't be at the top of the government league tables this year, and nor would I want to be. To be at the top of the league tables would have meant not meeting some of our amazing year 6's who followed a different curriculum whilst with us - a curriculum that matched their needs perfectly. I know I have to be careful what I say here, but the fun, the joy, and the happiness these kids have brought to my job, and to my school is worth soooooo much more than being top of the tables. Kids in year 6 - all of you - well in. Your top of my league tables by a million miles, and you've done amazingly well. Walk into your high school's as proud as punch, and as confident as Hercules, knowing that you have the power within you to Thrive.

And finally, again let's acknowledge the exciting staff changes that are happening this week.

Charlotte Brown leaves us to go and work, in actually fact, with Miss Darlington, over at Ince.

Claire Dugdale, hopefully will be able to sort her health matters out following cancellation last week (hence she's back with us. We truly wish Claire all the very best in this area

Georgina Berry - hasn't she done well...... 8.75 months pregnant and still at work. Well done G, and many many thanks for making it to the end of term... now please.... get those feet up, and chill!

We wish Siobhan Horder all the best on her wedding day, as she returns to us as Siobhan Mackenzie.

We continue to pray for, and send all our love to Janet Jones who is still a valued member fo our team, as she continues her battle against Cancer. We cannot wait to see Janet back with us on the cleaning, and welfare team.

New challenges all round - nothing to be sad about, everything to be excited about folks.

As you know we welcome Carole Glover to join our team in reception, and Katy Blacklegde who has taught with us before, re joins our team in year 5. Both these teachers will bring vast amounts of experience with them, and will hopefully shake us up a bit!
