School APP—Calendar/dates should now be reasonably spot on. And now the only excuse for not knowing something is me causing confusion by putting 6 different start dates and times!

Download the “school news” app

You should be able to find and subscribe to the school within the app by searching for its postcode (PR73JU)- alternatively, when you are logged in on the site, if you go to 'Connect' on the orange bar along the top of the screen, then press 'App', this will allow you to access the app's settings.

Choose St Georges Primary School

The app will have sections for News, Events and Albums, perhaps most importantly you’ll be able to see all the calendar dates—as well as having them synced to your phone.

The app, should you subscribe will send you push notifications as we add and change things, again, this should hugely improve organisation and communication. To the point where I think we can tick it off! job done!

We currently have a vacancy for the role of parent governor on our governing board.

The role of the governing board

The school’s governing board is responsible for providing confident and strategic leadership, and creating robust accountability, oversight and assurance for the school’s educational and financial performance.
The board is passionate about education and committed to continuous school improvement to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

The role of a parent governor

As a parent governor, you’ll work with the board to make sure it effectively carries out the duties referred to above. You’ll also play a vital role in bringing a parental perspective to the governing board, but you’re not there to speak ‘on behalf’ of the parent body.

To be a parent governor you should have:

  • A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children
  • Good inter-personal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • The specific skills required to make sure the governing board delivers effective governance

Expectations of governors

Governors are expected to:

  • Attend at meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Commit to training
  • Visit the school
  • Commit to a 4 year term of office

How to apply

If you’re interested in applying for the role, please complete the candidate form attached to this letter and return to Sharon Kellie at bursar@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk  If we receive more applications than there are vacancies, a secret ballot will be carried out. We will inform you closer to the time if we have to do this.

If you have any queries about this process or would like to find out more about the role, please contact tbarton@cbgovernance.co.uk

As you know we're taking the children to Martin Mere to launch the year, to aid transition and to help re generate that educational excitement. There's no charge for this trip. I love the idea of a whole school trip to launch the year - it is becoming a new tradition!

Just a quick check list before the trip.

Clothes wise - check the weather forecast nearer the time, and lets dress appropriately. General rule is school T shirt - own trousers/ shorts and footwear. Maybe a coat? Maybe sun tan cream!!! We'll know more nearer the time!

Kids need to be in school for normal time, 8.45am, and we'll be back for school closing at the normal time

Breakfast club and Late Stay open as normal.

School packed lunches are all sorted.

If you're bringing a packed lunch from home, please bring in a carrier bag that we can bin post lunch.

Please make sure your details on SIMS lite are up to date in the unlikely event we need to contact you.

Duck Keeping Opportunities!

We are looking for families who would like to be involved in looking after our beautiful school ducks at weekends on a rota basis. Time committment is approximately 15 to 20 mins for each visit and involves feeding, minor cleaning,  a welfare check and egg collecting.  Full training and materials will be provided. For more information and to apply, please email  s.calvert@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk

Over the coming days, our thoughts and prayers are with King Charles and the rest of the royal family as we come to the day of Her Majesty The Queen's funeral on Monday. Of all the images of the queen that I have seen over recent weeks, these two stand out most to me.
