After meeting Author Patrice Lawrence last week at Balshaw Lane, 25 of our pupils were excited to receive their signed copies her brand-new book, 'The Elemental Detectives'. An inspirational experience seeing her in person and hearing the passion with which she spoke about writing. Remember kids, she started out just like you and look at her now!

ECO Council

Through our environmental efforts over the last academic year we have been accredited with a green flag from the Eco Schools! This is nationally renowned award and something that we are immensely proud to unveil to our whole school community!

Last year, we focussed on Biodiversity, Waste and School Grounds improvements. As part of this we got the Runner Ducks the pond and the bees and improved our waste management. We have now gathered together our new Eco Council Representatives and will be conducting our new year audit and plan so watch this space!

In other news, 75 Jars of honey will arriving at St. George's imminently from our hives at Mossy Lea!

Next week, we officially welcome in Autumn with a week of themed lunches.

Adult Helpers…. We still really do need you!!!!!

Adult Helpers! Can you help us to help you….

We really appreciate, and value help from parents with reading in school. Can you help?

Reading is a life skill, and all the staff at St. George’s work their hardest to ensure that children experience different reading opportunities.  We try to get every child in the infants heard read 3 times a week – that’s a huge task, and not one we can achieve without your help! If you can spare an hour or two in the week, for us, ideally in an afternoon – but mornings are better than nothing, we’d be ever so pleased to see you! Please see SLT, Sharon or myself if you can help us out!

If you can offer help in a more general way around the school please see any of our class teachers! It would be great to see you!

Dragon FM, broadcasting out of St. George's Primary School needs a team of dedicated children to help lead the radio station. The Radio Club, which will be  made up of Mr Horne, Y4, Y5 and Y6 children will meet each week, after-school on a Monday 3.15 4.30pm, in the run-up to Christmas, to record segments for the station. After Christmas, we will re-advertise the Dragon FM Radio Club again to allow for some different children to take part in the club. It's early days but I hope for the club to create brilliant weekly broadcasts featuring: local, national and international news updates;  School news in the form of School Council, Ethos Group and Eco Council updates; interviews from special guests and Music.

Please see the form below to sign your child up to the Dragon FM Radio Club, meeting each Monday, after-school, 3.15-4.30pm.

The Club will begin on Monday 17th October 2022

UNIFORM SWAP AT ST GEORGE'S

How it works:

Come to school during pick up or drop off time and make your way up past the infant playground to the Chalet (our warm wooden shed to the rear of the school). The Chalet is open every single day. Inside, you will find boxes containing all elements of the school uniform. If your child has grown out of some old uniform we would really appreciate you adding that into the boxes as you take out larger items. All clothes in the boxes have been cleaned and sorted.

At the rate children grow, uniform is an expensive and regular purchase so every little does help in this respect. If you are dropping off uniform too, thank you in advance!

Yarrow Schools Alliance, based here at St. George's, has now successfully trained over 60 teachers over the past 7 years. If you, or someone close to you is interested in joining the profession, let Rob know. Have a look at our teaching staff for proof of the pudding. Those trained by Yarrow include:

Rob Horne, Georgina Berry, Tom Norris, Siobhan Mackenzie, Lisa Towers, Mark Holmes, Angela Makepeace!

If that isn't an accolade and a half to the quality of the provision, I don't know what is...
