As we come to the end of another brilliant half-term at school we want to wish you all a very restful and enjoyable break. We have hit some turbulent times in terms of staffing due to COVID but the support we have received from you as parents has been incredible. When we asked you to keep your children at home if there was COVID in the household, if you possibly could, you did. When  we cancelled clubs, you were gracious and supported us in those decisions. For those things and the many more ways in which you support us, we can't thank you enough.

As ever our kids continue to shine and astound us with their resilience, determination and confidence. Below are just some of the amazing things they've been up to in the past week...

Education Sunday was absolutely fantastic. Our ethos team, led by Mrs Harrison, did a cracking job of leading us through the service. They spoke clearly and with confidence - kids you really were tremendous. It was also brilliant to see so many of our families and kids who were not in ethos group there supporting our school. If you would like to watch the service the link can be found below:

On Saturday some of our Year 6 leavers from last year came back to visit us and to plant a tree. The trees were kindly donated by the parents of the Y6 kids last year & it was just fantastic to see them back at their old little primary school, hearing about everything they've been up to at high school and all doing so well!

Sports Hall Athletics Finals!

πŸ…πŸ† Our year 3/4 Sports Hall Athletics Team came 3rd and the year 6 team came 5th out of all schools in Chorley! What a great achievement! πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒ. We are so proud of you all kids! Thank you to all the staff who helped plan and supervise the kids on the day and to the parents who helped to transport kids to and from the venue, it was much appreciated.

The Big Dig

Another brilliant day for our school. Every child from our smallest reception to our eldest year 6 planted a fruit tree in our grounds last week. These trees will provide food and shelter for a variety of wildlife over the coming years including our resident bees! It will be brilliant to watch the trees grow and for our kids to look back when they are older to see the impact they can make to our world! Massive thanks to Sarah C for sourcing the trees and organising such a brilliant day!

Prags delivered one of our worships last week to tell us all about compassion in the Sikh religion. We heard all about Langar, where people can receive food whatever their background for free!

Thanks Prags!

Stem Week In School - still looking for helpers!

Dear Parents and guardians, aunties and uncles, brother and sisters

We are on the lookout for any volunteers who may be able to help out with our STEM week in school which is due to take place the week commencing Monday 27th June. We want to inspire the children about all things STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and would love to show the children the huge range of careers and opportunities that are available to them within these areas. If you work within any of these fields or you feel your job requires skills in these areas, please get in touch to find out more about how you could help; it would be superb if some volunteers were willing to speak to the children during that week.  Please talk to Tom, Naomi or Emma, or send an email to t.norris@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk.

Many thanks and we look forward to hearing from some of you!

PARENT ONLINE SAFETY ZOOM BRIEFING -

well worth a second mention.

On Wednesday 2nd March at 7.30pm, there will be a zoom online safety briefing for parents.

Here are the Zoom access details

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86857844456?pwd=UWNtYURhQkRvaGNNMVVNcjA4QWI5UT09

Meeting ID: 868 5784 4456

Passcode: 941519

About the briefing

An β€˜essential’ online safety briefing for parents, guardians and carers.

Duration: Approximately 1 hr 10 mins with time for questions.

Many people, including young children are users of the internet.

Having access to online information and the functionality that the internet can offer has many benefits and for most it plays an important part of our everyday lives. However, as technology moves on at such a pace it is difficult to keep up with new trends and developments, particularly with regard to mobile devices/games technology and safe accessibility to online material.

During the COVID19 restrictions with more young people potentially spending more time online, issues relating to the exploitation, manipulation or abuse of young people has added to concerns regarding online safety.

What are our children doing online?

Do we know how they are behaving?

Are they safe?

Who are they communicating with?

Do they know what to do if they come across something suspicious?

Are they accessing age appropriate content?

Are they giving away too much personal information that may make them vulnerable or affect them in the future?

Are they spending too much time online?

We would ask at least one parent/carer from each family to attend this online session where a Lancashire Education Authority Consultant will present an online Zoom  Internet Safety briefing to address some of the issues mentioned above.

The session is for parents/carers only and will last for approximately 1hr with an opportunity for questions during or after the presentation.

The Local Authority and our school have policies in place to ensure children are learning in a safe and secure environment which includes being safe online. Therefore, this session has been organised to help you to contribute to this process in helping children to be aware of the potential problems associated with using the internet and modern technologies.

THE SESSION IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN

School Mobile Phone Number

When the pandemic hit us back in 2020, Andy released his phone number to parents as a way of keeping in touch and supporting those families who needed it during a really difficult time. Now that things are more settled we will be moving to a school mobile phone system which will continue to be a point of contact for all things COVID/emergency related. Please update your number for Andy to 07507 627673.

A small reminder to speak kindly to yourself this half term week. Especially on the days that don't go to plan. The days when you aren't as productive as you wanted to be. The days you didn't get done what you said you would do. On those days especially, talk to yourself as you would a friend. Don't say anything to yourself that you wouldn't say to someone you care for.

Look after yourselves and each other & have a wonderful break.
