A very warm welcome back to school! I hope you've had a refreshing break and are ready for an exciting, jam-packed term ahead. A special welcome to all our new pupils and parents—we're thrilled to have you join the St. George’s family!

The children seem to have grown over the summer, and their positivity and enthusiasm are truly inspiring. Our Reception children are settling in beautifully, they seem a wonderful bunch. At St. George's, we believe in a gradual induction process for Reception because it allows us to build meaningful relationships with each child. This tailored approach helps us understand their individual strengths and needs, as well as easing them into the daily routines—whether it’s during class time or lunchtime. It’s a process that’s invaluable for both the children and the staff.

Parents, we look forward to working alongside you to help your child grow in confidence, develop a love for learning, and strive to be their best self. Establishing a consistent routine for homework, reading, and online learning is key, and we encourage you to make school and education a top priority. When children see you value school—being on time, wearing the correct uniform, and treating others with respect—they'll follow your lead.

Remember, your children are your most precious gift. We are here to support, guide, and encourage them every step of the way. As always, our doors are open, so please don't hesitate to book an appointment with your child’s teacher or the Senior Leadership Team if you need any assistance. Let’s make this year the best yet!

Unusually we do have a few spaces dotted around the school, 1 in reception, and 1 in year 5 if you know of anyone moving into the area. Parents have moved to various locations around the country. So, if you know of anyone who was on our waiting list and would like to join us, put them in touch with Sharon. That said, the caveat is, if they are in one of our alliance schools then we have a rule where we don't pinch and poach! It's worth getting the message out there though.

Admissions:

If you have a child who should start school in September 2025 please ensure that you have read the modernised, refreshed and superior admissions process on the website at school, and at either church… all your questions should be answered there.

We have a virtual tour on line, and we will once again be resuming personal tours from 23rd September. If possible, although not essential, these will be on Tuesday mornings at 9.30am and Thursday afternoons at 1.15pm. Please contact the office to check availability.

New Seesaw Codes.

If your child has returned to St George's, they will need new codes for Seesaw and other resources.  Please can you return their Digital Resource Booklets next week so that we can update them.

If your child is new this year, they will be given a booklet soon, but these do take a while to compile as we need to add them to all our resources first.

Thank you.

School dinners continue to be superb, and a little more so in our refurbished kitchen that will cook the food better, keep it hotter for longer, and is more visible to the kids so that they can see what they're choosing!

School dinners are superb quality, superb value. Once again Leanne has been working hard to produce some cracking menu options and kids in Key Stage 2 can once again order their meals online via Scopay, either pre ordered on the APP, or order on the day. We do have to, alas increase school meal prices, not to make money, we don't on school meals, just to break even. As you know school meals, for paying junior kids, are £2.70

Once ordered, the children will receive a coloured wrist band which relates to a meal option so that everyone gets what they want.

Any problems with Scopay please see Sharon or Karen in the office.

I've mentioned 2 APPs; Scopay and SIMS lite. You should all have access to these accounts now. Please contact the office if you have not received an email.

Please make sure you can access these APPs. We do rely on them for contact details, and consent for various school activities. Any problems, contact the office.

Please also subscribe to the school's calendar on the website.... it can be useful in organising and communicating information about trips etc.

For those parents who are new to St George’s!

The school’s newsletter will be sent out weekly, by email only, so if you haven't received this by email, please contact Sharon to update your email address please!

The newsletter provides lots of information about how you can get the most from us!

Although we are trying to shorten the length of them, they are generally lengthy (sorry about that), and occasionally entertaining… please do take the time to read them! Despite various proofread checks… they do, almost without exception, come out with humorous typographical errors, and occasionally confusing information – for example giving 2 different dates for the same event!  I apologise now for any confusion caused; as you get to know me better… you’ll find it easier to forgive me. I always allow myself three mistakes before you are allowed to comment!

Simon Newell keeps the web cal up to date pretty regularly - we're massively grateful for this, it really helps us to help you

Welcome once again; I hope you soon find happiness with us… Enjoy the journey…

Adult Helpers…. Can you come back to us?

Adult Helpers! Can you help us to help you….

We really appreciated, and valued help from parents with reading in school, and other activities. Are you willing to come back to us? Can you help?

Reading is a life skill, and all the staff at St. George’s work their hardest to ensure that children experience different reading opportunities.  We try to get every child in the infants heard read 3 times a week – that’s a huge task, and not one we can achieve without your help! If you can spare an hour or two in the week, for us, ideally in an afternoon – but mornings are better than nothing, we’d be ever so pleased to see you! Contact any teacher, or the office if youre able to help out.

If you can offer help in a more general way around the school please see any of our class teachers! It would be great to see you!

Deciding whether your Year 6 child is ready to walk home alone is a significant and often difficult decision. It’s important to weigh factors like their maturity, familiarity with the route, and the safety of the neighbourhood. Consider potential risks, and think about how they might handle unexpected situations. Encouraging regular check-ins via phone, walking with friends, and sticking to well-lit areas can help mitigate concerns. Remember, there’s no rush—reassess the decision regularly, especially as the nights draw in, and make adjustments as needed for both your child’s safety and your peace of mind.

We would like to inform you about changes in our attendance policy, reflecting new government guidelines aimed at ensuring the best education for all children. The government is now imposing stricter rules on term-time absences, and holidays during this period will no longer be authorised. These may result in fines. If your child’s attendance drops below 95%, we will contact you to arrange to improve this. Our aim is to maintain the positive, supportive, and professional relationships that OFSTED praised. We are committed to working with you to ensure every child thrives

Dogs, Sickness and hair!

I haven't witnessed any problems with dogs on the playground since we allowed them in way back during COVID procedures, so please, continue to bring them on! I don't see why not! Keep them on a lead please, obviously, and bring poo bags... just in case. And of course, remember some kids, and staff are not dog fans.... but otherwise, woof woof.

If your child is off with sickness or diarrhoea, don’t send them back to us too soon! 48 hours after symptoms have stopped is NICE recommendations.

Uniform Policy

Your child’s hair should be cut no shorter than a number 2, be of natural looking colour, and contain no steps, or lines….. sorry!

Remember – you didn’t just choose the school, you chose the rules and uniform as well – be proud of it. Embrace it. Support it. Don’t spoil it.

Can any earrings please be removed also. The only jewellery we allow is medical jewellery and clear studs immediately needed following ear piercing.

Coloured T Shirts

All children are in a colour group in the school. This fosters team spirit and competitiveness! Children earn rainbow rewards throughout the week, worth 2 team points, and they also get achievement awards worth 3 team points – all help towards winning the cup at the end of the year! Coloured T shirts should be worn on Fridays (optional)– and it’s also nice to wear them on the children’s birthdays! It helps create a great atmosphere in school!

Dismissal - I know!

It does take a little longer on the Infant yards as we dismiss using the point, say, go method.... bear with us please. We get quicker.

Nut Allergy

We do have 5 children in school with Nut Allergies, one of the allergies is an air bourne one. So please, no nuts in school at all. Many thanks.

One or two staffing updates:

We’re delighted to welcome back Mark Holmes as our Year 5 teacher, and Simon Ball, who trained with us as an ECT, will officially begin his teaching career. Alice Turner also joins us as a Teaching Assistant and will support wrap-around care. Additionally, Robbie Froggat will be part of our wrap-around services team. We are thrilled to welcome such a talented team to help us continue providing the best support for your children

We do allow kids to use the MUGA in a morning, but prior to 8.45am, they MUST be supervised. School staff do not supervise children until we come out on duty at 8.45am.

Parents and carers are reminded that there is no supervision on the school site before 8.45am and that they are responsible for supervising their child until this time. Children should not be left unattended anywhere on site before 8.45am, and this includes the MUGA. Use of the MUGA is strictly on the basis that parents are responsible for ensuring their child is appropriately supervised and there will be no staff supervision. If it comes to our attention that children are being left unsupervised or with unsuitable/insufficient supervision then we will have no option but to lock the MUGA in future without further discussion, or consultation. Parents and carers are reminded that there is a breakfast club available if they are unable to supervise their child until 8.45am.

As we wrap up this week's newsletter, let's reflect on the strength of our community and the journey we’re on together. Joshua 1:9 reminds us, "Be strong and courageous... for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." And as Ted Lasso brilliantly said, "I believe in hope. I believe in Believe." At St. George’s, we believe in our children’s potential, in our teamwork, and in a bright future. Together, let’s face every challenge with hope, kindness, and a belief that we can achieve great things!

Welcome back folks - here we go, we're off
