Welcome to another exciting newsletter! It’s been a phenomenal start to the year, and I couldn’t be prouder of our St. George’s community. From the energy in the classrooms to the vibrant start of new learning journeys, everyone—from our pupils to our dedicated staff—deserves praise. Year 6 are off ontheir annual residential, today, ready for an adventure that will build memories and character.

Our creative approach to learning shines through in our curriculum hooks, designed to capture the imagination of every child. Just as “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” our children are taking those first steps into new adventures in learning. I believe in making school a place where children *want* to be—a place filled with curiosity, creativity, and joy. As Isaiah 43:19 reminds us, "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?" We are embracing every new beginning with open hearts and open minds.

Let's keep up this incredible momentum, *tempus fugit*—time flies! Let's make every moment count!

School admissions now open

If your child is in their last year of pre-school/nursery you can now apply for their primary school place at: www.lancashire.gov.uk/schools

It's quick and easy to do and you will receive email confirmation of your application.

You must apply even if you already have siblings in school. If you live in Lancashire you can include out of area preferences on your online application.

The closing date for primary applications for September 2025 is 23:59 on 15 January 2025.

Please also see the admissions page from the school website for additional details.

I have updated the safeguarding section of the school website with a NSPCC document. You can get it by clicking here. It discusses kids being at home alone, and the thought processes parents should go through. It's a similar process when year 6 parents are deciding whether or not to let their kids walk home alone. It's worth a read.

NSPCC has created a Home Alone guide for parents/carers. I thought it would be useful for anyone who is working or has contact with Parents/Carers or even ourselves as Carers or Parents. 😊

As NSPCC highlights the increase of contacts on this subjects between April 2003 and March 2024 totalling to over 7,500 compared to 4,717 over the previous year.

The guide provides practical tips and advice to help parents and carers decide what is best for their child when it comes to staying home alone or going out alone.

It covers some of the risks parents should consider before making a decision, such as how their child feels about the idea and who they should contact in an emergency.

There is also a checklist for parents and children to work through together to help them prepare for different types of scenarios.

This includes questions about what to do if there is an accident at home or they are approached by a stranger outside.

A huge thank you to all the parents who have donated used uniforms! The uniform shed has now moved to the Junior Yard and is open all day for your convenience—although you may need to pop into the office to access it. Please feel free to **take** from it as well! Whether you need a replacement or are looking for an extra set, it's there for everyone. As a reminder, donate only decent, washed items to keep things tidy. As Galatians 6:2 reminds us, "Carry each other's burdens." Let’s make this resource a blessing for all!

May i respectfully say we now have enough stock, and thank you for your donations - but, for now at least, can you either hold uniform yourself, or swap it on facebook etc. We've no storage space left!

Newsletter Promotion - PTA

Parentkind – the charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative –  all you have to do is, opt in through the Asda Rewards app, choose our primary school and shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com, between 2nd September and 30th November 2024

Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to our PTA. Also, every time somebody opts in, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.

The supermarket has joined forces with Joe Wicks to support the initiative – look out for the TV advert, radio ads and social media coverage

Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to schools to spend on the things they need the most, such as (school to input)

Thanks to the PTFA for finding this, and telling me what to do!

As we conclude this week’s newsletter, I want to share something personal I watched over the summer—*Ted Lasso*, which was recommended to me, and I have to say, it’s the best thing I’ve seen on TV in a long time. What makes it special is its heartwarming message about kindness, optimism, and teamwork, values we hold dear here at St. George’s. The way Ted brings people together, much like our school community, reminded me of our shared purpose. As Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Ted Lasso’s belief in people echoes our commitment to fostering the best in every child and every staff member.

In Ted’s words, "I believe in hope. I believe in Believe." And just like that, I believe in our wonderful school, the kids, the staff, and all we accomplish together. Let’s continue to uplift one another, stay curious, and keep spreading positivity as we move forward into the year!

As I set off to PGL for the weekend, I'll leave you this week with some marvellous quotes, and philosophies from the series. Be more like Ted - im trying to be!
