As we transition into the season of change, marked by this week’s Autumnal Equinox and the last full moon of summer, it's a reminder of life’s natural rhythms—moments of light, growth, and reflection. Just as the seasons shift, our children continue to evolve, achieving incredible milestones like their phenomenal PGL trip. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything, there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” These achievements aren’t just fleeting—they’re proof of what our kids can accomplish when they embrace challenge with positivity. Let's take time to process and celebrate these moments, reinforcing the belief that they can achieve anything they set their hearts on. Well done to all the staff and children for making this a memorable success!

We’ve previously allowed some flexibility with dismissal by letting a few children exit through different doors to meet siblings. However, this has now become difficult to manage and could impact our safeguarding processes. As a result, from Monday 23rd September 2024 we will need to return to our normal procedures: Classes 1, 2, 4, and 5 will exit onto the infant yard, and Classes 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 onto the junior yard. Rest assured, teachers will always be present, and if there’s any delay, they will wait with the children. Exceptions can still be made for specific needs, such as health reasons. We hope you understand the necessity of this change. Thank you for your support.

Have you ever picked up your child from school, dying to know how their day went, only to have a conversation that goes a bit like this...

'How was your day?'

'Fine'

'What did you do today at school?'

'Nothing'

And that's it. The conversation comes to an abrupt end and you still have absolutely no clue about what they got up to. Sound familiar? Well, if you're keen to get some answers, try asking these kid-friendly questions instead.

I bet you'll find out a whole lot more!

1 What game did you play at playtime?

2 What made you smile today at school?

3 What was the funniest thing the teacher said?

4 Who do you want to make friends with in your class, but you haven't had a chance yet?

5 Who brought in the yummiest thing for packed lunch today?

6 Tell me one cool thing you learned today.

7 What was the hardest rule to follow in class today?

8 If you got to choose, who would you want to sit next to/not want to sit next to in class?

9 Tell me three different times you used your pencil today.

10 And did you use your rubber?

11 Did anything make you cross at school today?

12 Who did you help at school today?

13 What rules do they have at school that are different to the rules we have at home? Are they fair?

14 Did any of your classmates do anything funny today?

15 How would you rate your day at school out of 10? Why?

16 When did you feel most proud of yourself today?

17 Which lesson do you think I would have enjoyed most today?

18 Does your teacher remind you of anyone we know? Who and why?

19 Was anyone feeling sad or worried at school today?

20 Which new words did you learn?

Young Voices 2025

The 2025 Tour | Young Voices

We are pleased to confirm that once again, St. George’s will be attending Young Voices this academic year, with the concert due to take place on Tuesday 25th February 2025 at the new Manchester Co-Op Arena (more details will follow).

We will be running the choir after school club every Monday from 3:15pm – 4:15pm, beginning on Monday 30th September. The choir is open to children in Years 4, 5 and 6. If your child would like to participate, please fill out the questions below.

https://forms.office.com/e/DyYEL9NpMW

Submit your answers by Monday 23rd September and I will confirm places by Wednesday 25th September 2024.

Please note, places are limited and completing the form does not automatically guarantee a place on the choir. We aim to work on a first come basis, while also being mindful that there is an appropriate sharing of places across the classes.

We ask that if your child does have a place, they are committed to coming every week and are able to attend the concert-  we also require informing of absence if they are unable to make the rehearsal. If your child for some reason is unable to attend, please simply inform Sharon on the school phone line (I really appreciate your help with this).

More information can be found from the web site, https://www.youngvoices.co.uk.

Please contact myself, Rob Horne, if you have any further queries at:

You must apply even if you already have siblings in school. If you live in Lancashire you can include out of area preferences on your online application.

The closing date for primary applications for September 2024 is 23:59 on 15 January 2025.

Please also see the admissions page from the school website for additional details.

We’ve had an absolutely fantastic time at the PGL residential! The benefits of this experience are endless—building confidence, teamwork, and resilience, all while having tons of fun. The kids were simply amazing, tackling every challenge with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. A huge shout-out to the staff for their unwavering support and energy, and to the incredible PGL team who made the experience unforgettable. I’ve set up a gallery on our website so you can relive some of these magical moments. Well done, everyone! Click here for the gallery!

School APP—Calendar/dates should now be reasonably spot on. And now the only excuse for not knowing something is me causing confusion by putting 6 different start dates and times!

Download the “school news” app

You should be able to find and subscribe to the school within the app by searching for its postcode (PR73JU)- alternatively, when you are logged in on the site, if you go to 'Connect' on the orange bar along the top of the screen, then press 'App', this will allow you to access the app's settings.

Choose St Georges Primary School

The app will have sections for News, Events and Albums, perhaps most importantly you’ll be able to see all the calendar dates—as well as having them synced to your phone.

The app, should you subscribe will send you push notifications as we add and change things, again, this should hugely improve organisation and communication. To the point where I think we can tick it off! job done!

I need to make you aware that school has a little less jurisdiction over authorising leave. The guidance below is from the local authority. All things considered, as is always the case, I will always try and work with you. Carrots are always better than sticks. I have great relationships with the vast majority of you, and I don't want that to change - so keep me posted, and work with me. Above all, keep attendance as high as possible, and always ring in please if your child is absent. My thanks, Andy

As I conclude this week's newsletter, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what makes St George’s Church School truly special - it isn't unique, but it is very very special.  It is the strong relationships between our parents, kids, and staff that form the cornerstone of our community. These connections are vital to our effectiveness and capability as teachers. When we work together harmoniously, we create an environment that nurtures growth, resilience, and success.

In considering our path forward, let us remember the timeless story of David and Goliath, which illustrates how faith and unity can help us overcome any challenge. The wisdom of Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” serves as a reminder that, with shared commitment and trust, we can triumph over adversities. I encourage each of you to embrace this journey with renewed vigour and remain optimistic about what lies ahead. Your unwavering dedication to our community is invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for the spirit of collaboration that defines St George’s. Together, let us continue to foster these essential relationships, ensuring that our school remains a place where our children can truly flourish.
