Welcome to this week’s newsletter! In one of our worships this week, we explored the beautiful and powerful story of **Ruth and Naomi** from the Book of Ruth. This tale highlights the deep loyalty and unwavering support between two women—an incredible example of friendship, resilience, and faith. It's particularly significant because, in a time when women's voices were often sidelined, their bond took centre stage, showing the strength found in community and love.

The staff and kids have embodied that spirit this term, working together with incredible dedication. It's been a truly phenomenal term so far—full of growth, kindness, and progress.

I’d like to share a thought-provoking story: A teacher once asked her students to carry a balloon down a hallway without touching the walls. Many struggled because they were so focused on the balloon itself. The key to success? Simply walking straight ahead. The lesson here is powerful—sometimes, when we focus too much on minor obstacles, we lose sight of the bigger picture.

At St. George’s, we believe in moving forward with purpose, ensuring that every child, indeed every adult feels supported, confident, and ready to thrive in all aspects of life!

Celebrating Our (former) NQTs' Achievements!

I am absolutely delighted to share some heartwarming news with you all this morning! Six years ago, we welcomed three Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) to our school, each of whom was trained by the exceptional team at Yarrow - Ange, Georgina, Siobhan. Today, I am thrilled to announce that all three of these talented individuals have successfully crossed the threshold of experience and have blossomed into established and highly competent educators here at St Gs.

This achievement is truly remarkable and should be celebrated. Their commitment and perseverance have not only enriched our school community but have also contributed significantly to my own growth as a leader. As Ted Lasso wisely said, "I think that we can be all things to all people, but we can’t be all things to all people at the same time." True to this spirit, these NQTs have embraced their journey, demonstrating resilience and dedication that inspire us all.

Thank you for being an integral part of this journey, for growing alongside us, and for your unwavering support. Here’s to you all, and to the brilliant strides our school continues to make. Have a wonderful day!

Andy

An interesting post from our Facebook Page.

At the end of September/ beginning of October, for approximately 2 weeks, the fish start making their way back upstream. If anyone would like to see this they're currently jumping up the weir steps at Birkacre (next to the waterfall). You'll just need a little bit of patience to spot them.

These are possibly the trout that the school grows on and releases each year so its nice for the children to watch them go full circle.

We are thrilled to announce an exciting transformation happening at our school library! The library will be closed until after half term as we embark upon a cosmetic reading revolution designed to make reading an even more enjoyable and enriching activity for all our children. Amy and Siobhan are working almost tirelessly to reorganise the library space in a way that invites curiosity and enchantment, transforming it into a refreshed haven for young readers. We’re changing the library round to create a more welcoming and engaging environment, ensuring that every corner sparks interest and imagination.

In addition to the layout changes, we will be sorting out our phonics books, including replacing some old stock. This not only enhances our curriculum but also raises the profile of reading across the school, making it an integral part of not just our educational experience, and integral to life. Our continued aim is to make reading a pleasurable experience that captivates as many children as possible. As Dr. Seuss wisely said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go." We want every child to discover the joys of reading and the adventures it can bring.

To support this initiative, we invite you to get creative during half term! Please send Siobhan your fun and quirky reading photographs, capturing the joy and excitement of reading at home. You can submit your pictures to s.mackenzie@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk. Your contributions will help inspire our students and foster a love of reading that we hope will last a lifetime.

The power of cosmetic change cannot actually be underestimated; it motivates, excites, and re-engages our young learners with literature, fostering a renewed passion for reading.

Thank you for your support as we work together to make reading a magical experience for all our learners! Happy reading!

Our school meals have never been better! Thanks to our newly refurbished kitchen, we're now serving meals that stay hotter and fresher for longer, making lunchtimes even more enjoyable. Sharon has just uploaded the brand-new Winter menu onto SCOpay, and you’ll also find exciting promotional meals to sign up for! Don’t forget to pre-order your Christmas Dinner by **30th October**, and Bonfire Night and Lancashire Day meals by **20th October**. All orders can be easily placed using the **SCOapp**. Let's make lunchtime something to look forward to! (Juniors only - infants, you dont need to do anything! It will just happen!)

As we close this week’s newsletter, I want to remind you about the recent changes to every schools' attendance policy. The guidelines have become much stricter, and while our policy includes the possibility of fines for unauthorised absences, please know that this will not be my first port of action. We remain committed to working with parents to find supportive solutions when challenges arise. Regular attendance is vital for your child’s education, and we appreciate your cooperation in this.

Let’s continue to lift one another up. There’s a story about two climbers trying to reach the top of a mountain: one uses others as stepping stones, while the other reaches out to pull others up alongside them. The latter reaches the summit in the truest sense, rising *together* with their community. Here at St. George's, we believe in lifting each other up—kids, staff, and parents—knowing that by supporting one another, we can achieve great things.

Thank you for your continued partnership!

We are currently in the highest percentile nationally for attendance - and hats all down to you. THank you.
