Welcome Back and let me not wish you a Happy New Year - that implies we need luck - let us take responsibility and make it a Happy New Year, for us, and for the people around us.

As we step into 2025, I find myself reflecting on the fresh start it offers—an opportunity to reset, refocus, and embrace the year ahead with renewed energy, confidence and a sense of calm.

As I write this, “Every Breath You Take” by The Police is playing softly in the background, and, althoughth the lyrics can actually sound a little creepy,  it does remind me of the deep responsibility and care we have for one another. The line, “Every move you make, every step you take, I’ll be watching you,” resonates with our role as educators, parents, and caregivers—offering support, guidance, and love to ensure every child feels seen, valued, and safe.

This New Year invites us to plant seeds of growth and hope. There’s a Chinese proverb that says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” It’s a reminder that it’s never too late to make a positive impact—whether it’s in our own lives, our children’s, or our community. Each small action we take today can grow into something magnificent tomorrow.

Proverbs 22:6 offers us guidance too: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” This verse speaks to the shared mission we have at both our schools—to nurture not only academic success but also resilience, kindness, and a deep sense of moral purpose. Every small gesture, every word of encouragement, every act of care plants roots that will help our children thrive.

And as Samwise Gamgee said in The Lord of the Rings, “There’s some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.” Let’s hold on to that belief as we step into this new year. Together, we can face challenges with courage, celebrate victories big and small, and find joy in the everyday moments.

This year, let’s make every breath, every step, and every moment count. Here’s to a year filled with hope, kindness, and the shared goal of giving our children the best start possible. Happy New Year to you all—let’s make 2025 extraordinary together!

This terms poster 1/3 - Processing the wins.

Every day, we achieve so much more than we give ourselves credit for—overcoming challenges, solving problems, sharing kindness, and making progress in ways we often take for granted. The little things, the small wins, and the moments of perseverance are what shape us. Imagine if we paused to process these positives each day, reflecting on the hurdles we've crossed and the victories—big and small—that we’ve secured. By counting our wins, like the stars in the sky, we could build a powerful foundation of confidence, resilience, and belief in what we can achieve. Let’s celebrate the everyday triumphs and use them as stepping stones toward an even brighter future.

YES, NO OR MIDDLE NIGGLE?

In this week’s staff meeting, I tried something new to spark open and honest dialogue. I asked the question, “I believe that SLT are supportive—do you agree?” and gave everyone a split pin to anonymously pop into one of three pots: yes, no, or room for a middle niggle. This isn’t just about collecting opinions—it’s about demonstrating the difference between confidence and arrogance. Confidence is about believing in our strengths while remaining open to feedback and growth. Arrogance, on the other hand, shuts down conversations and assumes there’s nothing to learn.

We are a team, and I want us to work together in a way that is open, honest, and supportive. If you ever find yourself leaning towards no on several questions, please grab a coffee—cortado is my new favourite!—and come in for a chat. Your feedback matters, and it’s how we improve and move forward together.

I’m going to use this approach to open up conversations with you, our parents, as well. Lets see if it takes off.

My first question is: “I believe that communication between school and parents is good—do you agree?” Your response will help us reflect on what’s working and where we can improve. Each week, I’ll ask a new question, so feel free to suggest ones you’d like me to ask. Some ideas might include:

  • “I believe my child feels safe and happy at school—do you agree?”
  • “I believe my child is progressing well in their learning—do you agree?”

Let’s work together to celebrate our successes and tackle any niggles as a united team! Reply on this link. Replies are anonymous - but really, theres no need to be! But they are
