St George’s is now in a period of interregnum, as we await the Diocese’s appointment of a new vicar to lead our parish forward.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

And just like that - a few dark nights, a few rainy days, a Christmas fair, and now...... here we are - term 3b - the term we we crank up the pace, as the finish line is insight  - the final mile of the marathon is the mile where the aches and pains go, the energy floods in and the endorphins energise and enthuse us.... here we go.

There’s a unique feel to this final stretch of the year. It’s a term where we tie things up, yes—but it’s also a season where new beginnings quietly take root. For our youngest, the rhythms of school are now second nature: routines are mastered, smiles come easily, and confidence radiates from those tiny footsteps. Paradoxically, it’s often our oldest pupils—those who have journeyed furthest with us—who begin to question their footing. As their horizon stretches towards new schools, new expectations, and new environments, a quiet uncertainty can sometimes settle in.

And yet, what a powerful opportunity this presents. This final half-term is not simply an ending—it’s a launchpad. For our Year 6s especially, it’s a chance to process what they’ve done, how far they’ve come, and what that says about them. Confidence isn’t built on empty praise—it’s built on memory, reflection, and knowing you’ve already achieved something hard. That’s the challenge and the beauty of this time: to help them turn reflection into readiness, experience into energy, and self-doubt into self-belief.

So let’s keep reminding them: You’ve already done the tough things. You’ve already grown, learned, coped, led. Now take all that—and use it. As the quote goes, “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Let’s give them space to realise it.

Let’s hold onto that energy, keep expectations high, and wrap the year in the same spirit we began—with purpose, togetherness, and just the right amount of joyful chaos. Let’s make Term 3b one to remember.

Church is delighted to share news of a very special evening coming up as part of our church’s 200th anniversary celebrations. On Thursday 13th June, there will be a celebration event at the Masonic Hall on Cunliffe Street, Chorley, featuring a hot buffet, live 60s band, and disco—with black tie optional for those who fancy dressing up for the occasion! It promises to be a joyful night of community, music, and memories. Staff, parents, and friends of St George’s are all warmly invited—do come along and help us mark this remarkable milestone in style!

A Note About Alzheimer’s Fundraising
Many of you know Si Ball, one of our much-loved teachers. He’s currently raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK—a charity close to his heart, and one I’m personally connected to as well, following my own dad’s passing last year.

Now, I know that fundraising asks aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and I genuinely hope this doesn’t come across as taking liberties—it's absolutely not expected or required. Charitable giving is a very personal thing. That said, I also know some people like to support causes that pop up and resonate, so here’s the link to Si’s JustGiving page if that feels right for you.

No pressure at all—just a little opportunity to do something good, if the moment feels right.

🥇 We’ve Struck Gold! 🥇

I'm thrilled to announce that St George’s has been awarded the School Games Gold Award for 2024/25—a huge achievement and testament to the phenomenal effort of our staff, pupils, and wider community. This prestigious recognition celebrates not just sporting success, but a whole-school commitment to physical activity, teamwork, and participation.

A massive thank you to Jennifer, our unstoppable PE Lead, who has steered the ship with passion and purpose. And hats off to our incredible team of club leaders, sadly some of whom I'll be in trouble for forgetting, but at speed and from memory: Si (Football), Mark (Cricket), Amy, Carol and Julie (Netball) Jennifer plus others do the cross country.... we enter the swimming gala—each giving up time, energy and enthusiasm to make sport fun, inclusive and part of the St George’s DNA.

Whether it's lunchtime practices, after-school fixtures, or helping our kids discover new passions and talents, your contributions matter deeply. This Gold Award is for all of you—and more importantly, it’s for our children, who learn resilience, confidence, and joy through sport.

Let’s keep running, jumping, dribbling and celebrating together—onwards and upwards! 💪🎉

And of course, if any parents have a talent for sport, and could offer, with our support, a club for a age group, for say 6 weeks, don't be shy - come and speak to Jennifer. She'd be delighted.

Apropos PE, we’re absolutely delighted to welcome Katie back to St George’s following her 12-month maternity leave. It’s brilliant to have her warm energy and familiar smile back around school. She’ll be supporting across different areas this half term, before stepping back into class full-time after summer. We’ve missed you, Katie—and we’re so pleased to have you home!

Focus Week- Art in the Outdoors

In the week beginning 23rd June St George's will be having a focus week focusing on our school grounds.

We have lots of lovely experiences and activities planned and we will be off timetable all week! This week includes both KS1 and KS2 sports day.

During the week we will be getting outside whatever the weather. Please send in full forest school clothing, including wellies and a waterproof coat to be kept in school all week.

Children should come to school every day in normal school uniform.

On Monday 23rd June we will be having MUDDY MONDAY. On this day we will be focusing on clearing old soil and plants into the skip and then filling our planting areas with new soil. If possible please sent in any (named) trowels and gardening forks. Any small wheelbarrows will also be helpful.

On this day we will need some help- if you (or family members) can spare an hour or 2 on the 23rd, please fill in the attached form.

Our focus week will culminate in a school Scarecrow festival which families can visit after school on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th.

We need some clothing to help build our Scarecrow. Please send in any old adult or child size clothes in the week beginning 16th June.

Thanks,

Emma

🌟 Uniform Swap Shed – Open All Day! 🌟

We’re excited to let you know that our Uniform Swap Shed is now open all day and located in the Junior Yard!

👕 How it works:

  • Bring in to the shed any good quality school uniform items that your children have outgrown.
  • Use the coat hangers provided to hang them up neatly.
  • Feel free to help yourself to any items you need – no need to donate in order to take!

This is a great way to reduce waste, save money, and support each other as a school community. Thank you for taking part and helping make this a success!

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we close out this week, let’s remind ourselves that the second half of the summer term often passes in a heartbeat—one moment it's the start of June, the next we’re waving goodbye in July. But in the middle of it all lies the magic: the steady routines, the sudden breakthroughs, the laughter, the wobblier days, and the gentle nudges forward.

As ever, thank you for walking alongside us—supporting, championing, and trusting. In the words of Paddington (a bear of immense wisdom), “If we are kind and polite, the world will be right.”

Let’s keep making it so.

Have a lovely weekend.
