Welcome to this week’s newsletter!
What a week! From blooming sunflowers to blooming kindness, it’s been a beautiful end to June here at St George’s. Focus Week has brought our grounds to life—thank you to Emma and the team for leading such a hands-on, vibrant programme, and to Martin and Gina for quietly resetting the school each night so we could do it all again the next day. The dance competition dazzled, the swimming gala splashed with success, and Year 6 are still beaming after their London adventure. What a phenomenal school community we are part of.
You may have spotted a coffee cart on the junior yard yesterday—a random act of kindness brewed from a moment a few months ago, when one of our own staff clocked I was having a rough day and simply handed me a cortado. A tiny gesture, a big lift. I hope you enjoyed a brew and a moment to pause. As Ted Lasso says: “I believe in hope. I believe in ‘Believe.’” I also believe in coffee.
A quick note—thank you for your understanding around Sports Day postponement. The forecast made it an easy call for safety’s sake. We’ll now hold Sports Day on Tuesday 2nd July, with Infants in the morning and Juniors in the afternoon, over at Albany. Fingers crossed for blue skies and dry grass!
Now, into the final few weeks of the school year we go... lets finish in absolute sheer pure style.... let's show the world how classy we are.

Celebrating Our Annual Focus Week at ST Georges
Well first of all, it nearly didn't happen - I didn't think i'd allocated a budget for it to be honest. It was on the 28th April, 15:51 I put a shout out to staff, and at 16:50 Emma said she'd sort something out - and what a success. Thanks so much to Emma and all staff for not being passive - for stepping off the sidelines, and onto the pitch..... and leading the game.... I would hate to work in a school where people just stood on the sidelines expecting..... but not doing.... that said, I think people would hate me to work in such a school, or work place like that. It's so easy to chill on the sidelines shouting and screaming at things we "do wrong" I do that at every Rugby Game I go and watch.... I score my best tries for my seat! But I know i could no longer survive 10 minutes on a rugby pitch these days. But Emma, got off her seat, and ran onto the pitch not just as a player.... she grabbed the captains arm bands.... and thankfully other team members - yourselves included ran onto the pitch and mucked it - and what a story we have to tell.....
I am delighted to reflect on the success of our annual Focus Week here at St George's, where our school community came together to celebrate the importance of experiencing and trying new experiences in the field of Forest School and Gardening work. This week was a true testament to our commitment to fostering essential skills, exploring diverse subjects, and engaging in a variety of enriching activities.
As the headteacher, it fills me with immense pride to witness the children embodying determination and confidence, knowing that they are supported by a strong sense of faith. My vision for a school where children and staff genuinely look forward to coming each day, finding joy in learning, and striving for excellence has truly come to life during this Focus Week. My vision extends to the parents as well. As you drop your kids off with us, I hope your confident that they're safe, going to be well educated, have fun, and develop their confidence, create memories, and brain pathways of what they can do. And confident that we are a team working together, rowing in the same direction, and not your opponents.
Thank you all for your continued dedication and for making this year's Focus Week a resounding triumph. Together, we have created a vibrant and nurturing environment where our children can flourish and thrive. Thank you . Andy

Monday 7th July
The PTFA pulled off a phenomenal Fair at Christmas didn't they? Every single penny raised at that Fair. This year the PTFA have paid for:
New equipment either on the Junior Yard.
IPADS which is now useable,
Tonie boxes and kits to help kids who struggle with reading engage with literature
And of course you've bought us a 3D printer, which is currently printing away for the Y6's key rings....
Thank you so much. This is something that we would have never achieved with the PTFA who raised funds for it, and then organised it - amazing. Further more if we had to spend money on the outdoors, then something from the school budget would have to give - perhaps a focus week? And that would be sad.
Raffle ticket have been sent home!and we have some mega prizes......
We are always looking for new sponsors to provide prizes for our raffles. If you, or the company you work for are able to provide a suitable prize, please contact me, or any member of the PTFA!
Can you provide us with any cakes, or refreshments of any type to sell at the Fair? These would be most gratefully received in school, on the Monday of the Fair. We did struggle with this at Christmas; I think it's a tradition that hasn't reignited post Covid. The cake stall previously a massive part of the Fair with all kinds of cakes sold. We really do rely on your donations here - so please, if you are able, can you do some baking please of anything - and send it in. If you can include the ingredients please that would be great, especially Nuts etc......
And finally… if nothing else; please come to school and support the PTFA in this major fundraising event! The fair will open at 6.00pm, and will be phenomenal. I know how hard the PTFA are working. I look forward to seeing you there! Let’s hope for great summer weather….
Stalls will be outside, on the MUGA, like they were at Christmas. Refreshments in the hall; year 6 games will be on the MUGA and Junior Yard
There will also be Fair Rides which will be on the Junior Yard
The ice cream van will be on the Junior Yard
Pony rides will be on the infant yard with other exciting stalls including Face paints, Henna and Tattoos.
You will be able to access the school hall from the Infant or Junior Yard, cutting through school if necessary!
We will be asking for volunteers to help us set up, ticket up etc, manage stalls etc and this is another occasion when we really do rely upon your help. I will ask naomi to do this via Forms, again like we did at Christmas.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered we have lots of helpers now
Can you help?
We are looking for a couple of volunteers to help on the afternoon of the school fair, 7th July. We need to set up all the tombolas and games. School will offer you lunch with your child before we set up if you can spare a couple of hours we would be extremely grateful, please message me if you can!
Thank you

Gifts for Teachers
As is now a tradition in school, but for those parents who are new to us at Christmas and at end of year, we ask, with the utmost respect for you not to send gifts in. We ask primarily, if you’re happy with the work we have done, for your thanks – it is so powerful, and means so much. Many thanks

This will take place in the School Hall - Year 6 children will be asked to arrive from 6:30 through the main reception doors. Each child will be given 2 tickets - please can the audience enter through the hall doors. It will be Zoomed out as well - the link will be sent via email/seesaw on Monday 14th July. There will be a short presentation after the performance for our Year 6 leavers.
The final Eucharist for the Year 6 kids will be held in school on WEdnesday 16th July as normal - of course the only difference being, if kids are now confirmed they can receive communion with us.
Y6 Duxbury golf: Thursday 18th July
Kids will be walking down having a packed lunch there, round of mini golf and an ice cream. Be back in time for the end of the day. More details will certainly come from G or Thomas.
Y5/6 disco and sleepover: Monday 21st July. Year 5/6 to come back to school at 7pm, and this will lead into the Year 6 sleepover....
Children to have their tea at home and then arrive in their disco gear, with their things for the sleepover and school uniform for their final day. Enter through the main office. They may also wish to pack a spare TShirt/jumper and a sharpie that can be signed by their friends on the final day. There will be snacks and drinks provided during the disco and normal school rules will apply on mobile phones, and of course smart watches - if they need it for the next day, we will keep it in the safe in the office overnight.
Please note: Y6 Teachers will sort out rooming for the kids - do not worry about this, it's our call!
Y6 Blessing: Tuesday 22nd July 8am
(All Year 6 Adults welcome) 8AM in school hall - enter through the hall doors. Sausage and Bacon Butties served and Rev Mike will bless the Y6's before they begin their final day at St. G's. Please can adults take home all of their children's sleepover belongings at this time.
As mentioned above, the children will be able to sign a spare jumper/tshirt on the final day. Sharpies are the best to do this and we don't have any in school - please send your child in with a suitable permanent pen.
The children will be dismissed in the usual way at 3:15 on Friday 19th July. Please, as always, let us know if there are any changes in your child's dismissal.

As the kids move up a year group, there are some changes for the new years 3's.
Remember that you now need to pay for school meals - unless of course you're entitled to FSM. The Universal free school meals only apply to infant kids.
Remember to claim for free school meals even if you're in the infants - it does help the school budget out to be honest!
Year 3 School Meals
Leanne and the catering team prove that with the right people, the right determination, and by working together one can make a difference. This year, the number of kids having schools meals has been the highest we've ever known. Its been amazing. They do a stunning job in the kitchen.
As Year 2 children move into the juniors they will no longer be entitled to a universal free school meal. School meals for Junior kids will be charged at £2.90 (I think) per day from September. Junior kids have 4 choices, a meat choice, a veggie choice, a Jacket Potatoe or a grab and go sandwich bag. Your child can choose what they want each day, on the day, or pre book. Kids on school meals are given a coloured wrist band that corresponds to their choice of food....
As implied above, sadly we are having to increase the cost of things.
In line with lancashire guidance, to break even we are having to increase the cost of school meals. From September school meals will cost £2.90 per day, which to be honest is still very good value. The usual 4 choices are available for Junior kids - we include a sandwich grab and go bag for them to choose from. Children in year 3 onwards choose their meal on the day. The menu is posted on SCO pay
We are also increasing the cost of wrap around care, once again, to cover the increase in salary, and food costs.
Breakfast club will rise to £6.00
There are 2 charges for late stay - £6.00 if picked up before 4.30pm, and £8.00 for the 5.30pm pick up.
|
|
And, if youre joining us in September.....

|
|
We kindly request that all outstanding debts for Late Stay and Breakfast Club be cleared before the new year. Access to these clubs will not recommence until these balances are settled. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Some of the debts are over £1000 now, and that is affecting staffing levels to be honest.
Separately, we also ask that any remaining debts for trips or residential activities be paid before the end of term. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

As we wrap up another packed week, I want to thank everyone who plays a part in making St George’s the school it is—from our tireless staff, to our brilliant children, to the many parents who support, encourage, and get involved with good humour and open hearts.
We’re always growing, always evolving —and while we may not get everything right, we never stop trying. So if you have an idea, a question, or a positive challenge—please, bring it to us. Your voice matters, everyones voice matters..... We’re stronger when we work together.
Have a great weekend.
Andy
