Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

Hello everyone,

As I write this, I’m sitting at Bibby’s Farm with our brilliant Year 2s, soaking up the fresh air and that unbeatable spirit of adventure. It’s a wonderful reminder of the magic that happens inside us when we try something new — how nerves and anxiety can transform into excitement, pride, and confidence once we get going.

Back at school, we had the fantastic Chris Lubbe inspiring us all with his powerful message about courage, kindness, and the strength of standing together. All this hot on the heels of our brilliant Focus Week and the phenomenal sports days — thank you to everyone for your energy and support.

We’re all on the same team here, working in the same direction for our children — lifting each other up, sharing the load, and celebrating every success together.

A shorter newsletter this week (dodgy WiFi up here!), but still packed with warmth and gratitude. Let’s keep that spirit going!

Summer Fair - 7th July
A lot of work, a lot of fun and a lot of funds raised! In the run up to the Summer Fair (Monday 7th July) we have 3 non-uniform Fridays planned—13th June, 20th June and 27th June. In return for the children coming in their own clothes we ask for contributions for the school f...

A little note about dogs on the school grounds… I love seeing those wagging tails at drop-off and pick-up — they really do add to our community spirit, for me at least. But let’s remember that not everyone is as keen on dogs. Some children (and adults!) feel nervous or unsure, even around the friendliest of pups. So please keep dogs on a short lead, steer clear of doorways where kids enter, and parents chat to teachers, , and give those who feel a bit wobbly plenty of space.

If we continue to try to see to understand, rather than to judge, it’ll be fine. It’s those small acts of empathy and respect that make St George’s the special, inclusive place we all love. Thank you for helping us keep it that way!

Here it is..... let's see where we stand.....

As the summer sun makes its cameo appearance, we find ourselves reflecting on what truly matters: that our kids come to school with joy in their hearts and a spring in their step — rather than dragging themselves in like a Monday morning lasagne.

At St George’s, I am fairly unwavering in my belief that we are all on the same side — one team, united in wanting the very best for every child. In that spirit, we are inviting you to take part in our annual questionnaire.

You can fill it in anonymously if you wish — but honestly, there’s no need to don a disguise. We thrive on openness, honesty, and even the occasional left-field suggestion (yes, even if it involves a unicorn petting zoo or a zip wire from the hall roof).

And as it says in Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Your feedback will help us refine, zhuzh, explain and continue to shape our wonderful school into a place where every child can flourish — academically, socially, spiritually, and beyond.

Thank you for standing with us, for your candour, and for always being part of our St George’s family.

Ukulele Performance – Class 7 & Class 8

Parents warmly invited

On Thursday 17th July, we would be delighted to welcome parents and carers of Class 7 and Class 8 pupils into school for a special musical performance.

The children have been working hard all year to develop their ukulele skills, and they’re now ready to share their progress and perform some of their favourite pieces.

If you’re able to join us, please arrive at the hall doors from 2.00pm, with the performance starting promptly at 2.15pm.

Following the performance, pupils will return to their classrooms for registration and to collect their belongings, before being dismissed at the usual time of 3.15pm from their normal exits.

We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating the children’s musical achievements.

Monday 7th July

The PTFA pulled off a phenomenal Fair at Christmas didn't they? Every single penny raised at that Fair. This year the PTFA have paid for:

New equipment either on the Junior Yard.

IPADS which is now useable,

Tonie boxes and kits to help kids who struggle with reading engage with literature

And of course you've bought us a 3D printer, which is currently printing away for the Y6's key rings....

Thank you so much. This is something that we would have never achieved with the PTFA who raised funds for it, and then organised it - amazing. Further more if we had to spend money on the outdoors, then something from the school budget would have to give - perhaps a focus week? And that would be sad.

Raffle ticket have been sent home!and we have some mega prizes......

We are always looking for new sponsors to provide prizes for our raffles. If you, or the company you work for are able to provide a suitable prize, please contact me, or any member of the PTFA!

Can you provide us with any cakes, or refreshments of any type to sell at the Fair?  These would be most gratefully received in school, on the Monday of the Fair. We did struggle with this at Christmas; I think it's a tradition that hasn't reignited post Covid. The cake stall previously a massive part of the Fair with all kinds of cakes sold. We really do rely on your donations here - so please, if you are able, can you do some baking please of anything - and send it in. If you can include the ingredients please that would be great, especially Nuts etc......

And finally… if nothing else; please come to school and support the PTFA in this major fundraising event!  The fair will open at 6.00pm, and will be phenomenal. I know how hard the PTFA are working. I   look forward to seeing you there!  Let’s hope for great summer weather….

Stalls will be outside, on the MUGA, like they were at Christmas. Refreshments in the hall; year 6 games will be on the MUGA and Junior Yard

There will also be Fair Rides which will be on  the Junior Yard

The ice cream van will be on the Junior Yard

Pony rides will be on the infant yard with other exciting stalls including Face paints, Henna and Tattoos.

You will be able to access the school hall from the Infant or Junior Yard, cutting through school if necessary!

We will be asking for volunteers to help us set up, ticket up etc, manage stalls etc and this is another occasion when we really do rely upon your help. I will ask naomi to do this via Forms, again like we did at Christmas.

JUST THINK.... FOR £3.00 YOU COULD SET THE KIDS UP ON THEIR PS5, WHILST YOU CHILL IN THE GARDEN ON YOUR LUXURY GARDEN FURNITURE PLANNING HOW TO SPEND YOUR £150 AMAZON VOUCHER..... IM IN.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered we have lots of helpers now 😍

🌟 Can you help? 🌟

We are looking for a couple of volunteers to help on the afternoon of the school fair, 7th July. We need to set up all the tombolas and games. School will offer you lunch with your child before we set up 😀 if you can spare a couple of hours we would be extremely grateful, please message me if you can!

Thank you

PTFA

Year 6 Run Down

Y6 Production: Tuesday 15th July 7pm

This will take place in the School Hall - Year 6 children will be asked to arrive from 6:30 through the main reception doors. Each child will be given 2 tickets - please can the audience enter through the hall doors. It will be Zoomed out as well - the link will be sent via email/seesaw on Monday 14th July. There will be a short presentation after the performance for our Year 6 leavers.

The final Eucharist for the Year 6 kids will be held in school on WEdnesday 16th July as normal - of course the only difference being, if kids are now confirmed they can receive communion with us.

Y6 Duxbury golf: Thursday 18th July

Kids will be walking down having a packed lunch there, round of mini golf and an ice cream. Be back in time for the end of the day. More details will certainly come from G or Thomas.

Y5/6 disco and sleepover: Monday 21st July. Year 5/6 to come back to school at 7pm, and this will lead into the Year 6 sleepover....

Children to have their tea at home and then arrive in their disco gear, with their things for the sleepover and school uniform for their final day. Enter through the main office. They may also wish to pack a spare TShirt/jumper and a sharpie that can be signed by their friends on the final day. There will be snacks and drinks provided during the disco and normal school rules will apply on mobile phones, and of course smart watches - if they need it for the next day, we will keep it in the safe in the office overnight.

Please note: Y6 Teachers will sort out rooming for the kids - do not worry about this, it's our call!

Y6 Blessing: Tuesday 22nd July 8am

(All Year 6 Adults welcome) 8AM in school hall - enter through the hall doors. Sausage and Bacon Butties served and Frs Jordan, Peter or David will bless the Y6's before they begin their final day at St. G's. Please can adults take home all of their children's sleepover belongings at this time.

As mentioned above, the children will be able to sign a spare jumper/tshirt on the final day. Sharpies are the best to do this and we don't have any in school - please send your child in with a suitable permanent pen.

The children will be dismissed in the usual way at 3:15 on Friday 19th July. Please, as always, let us know if there are any changes in your child's dismissal.

As the kids move up a year group, there are some changes for the new years 3's.

Remember that you now need to pay for school meals - unless of course you're entitled to FSM. The Universal free school meals only apply to infant kids.

Remember to claim for free school meals even if you're in the infants - it does help the school budget out to be honest!

Year 3 School Meals

Leanne and the catering team prove that with the right people, the right determination, and by working together one can make a difference. This year, the number of kids having schools meals has been the highest we've ever known. Its been amazing. They do a stunning job in the kitchen.

As Year 2 children move into the juniors they will no longer be entitled to a universal free school meal. School meals for Junior kids will be charged at £2.90 (I think) per day from September. Junior kids have 4 choices, a meat choice, a veggie choice, a Jacket Potatoe or a grab and go sandwich bag. Your child can choose what they want each day, on the day, or pre book. Kids on school meals are given a coloured wrist band that corresponds to their choice of food....

As implied above,  sadly we are having to increase the cost of things.

In line with lancashire guidance, to break even we are having to increase the cost of school meals. From September school meals will cost £2.90 per day, which to be honest is still very good value. The usual 4 choices are available for Junior kids - we include a sandwich grab and go bag for them to choose from. Children in year 3 onwards choose their meal on the day. The menu is posted on SCO pay

We are also increasing the cost of wrap around care, once again, to cover the increase in salary, and food costs.

Breakfast club will rise to  £6.00

There are 2 charges for late stay - £6.00  if picked up before 4.30pm, and £8.00 for the 5.30pm pick up.

And, if youre joining us in September.....

We kindly request that all outstanding debts for Late Stay and Breakfast Club be cleared before the new year. Access to these clubs will not recommence until these balances are settled. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Some of the debts are over £1000 now, and that is affecting staffing levels to be honest.

Separately, we also ask that any remaining debts for trips or residential activities be paid before the end of term. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Attendance Da

And so, as we close another busy week together, let’s think of ourselves as a great big flock of starlings. You know the ones — swirling together in the sky in perfect, mesmerising patterns. Each bird on its own might feel small and insignificant, but together they create something breathtaking.

It’s exactly the same here at St George’s: staff, parents, children — each of us moving, adapting, and supporting one another to create something extraordinary.

Let’s keep flying in formation, looking out for each other, and trusting that even the smallest flutter makes the whole murmuration more beautiful.

Enjoy your weekend — and keep soaring. 🌟

Have a great weekend.
