St George’s is now in a period of interregnum, as we await the Diocese’s appointment of a new vicar to lead our parish forward.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

Dear families,

This week, I came across a quote that stopped me in my tracks:

“Someone asked me: ‘What’s your favourite place?’
I don’t have a favourite place.
I have my favourite people. And whenever I’m with them, it becomes my favourite place.”

In schools, we talk a lot about curriculum, behaviour, outcomes, and routines — and rightly so. But this quote reminded me of something just as important: it’s not always the place that matters most… it’s the people in it. At St George’s, we are lucky to be surrounded by good people — children who bring joy, parents who support, and staff who care deeply. That’s what makes our school special.

We all want our children to look back on their primary years and say, “That was my favourite place” — not just because of what they learned, but because of how they felt.

So thank you, as always, for being part of this. For showing up, cheering them on, and helping us create a school where hearts are full and belonging runs deep.

Warmest wishes,

Andy

Here's the PE timetable for term 1a. Busy busy in year 5!

Reception Parents – thank you
A massive thanks to all Reception parents for your patience and cooperation during these first few part-time weeks. We know it’s not always easy to manage around work and routines, but this gentle start really does help the kids settle, build confidence, and form secure attachments with us and each other. From Monday, they’re in full-time — welcome! We always say that we work with you, not simply for you. Our approach is formal, yes — but beautifully wrapped in informality, friendship, and love. As it says in 1 Corinthians 16:14: "Let all that you do be done in love."

Earrings – thank you for your support
A big thank you to all parents and carers who’ve responded to our request around earrings — many of you have switched to the clear plastic retainers, and we really appreciate it. Just a reminder that earrings are not permitted as part of our uniform policy, and we rely entirely on your support in helping us uphold this consistently. At the end of the day, we want to focus on learning, not lobe inspections — so thank you for continuing to work with us.

Parking – let’s look after each other
School drop-off and pick-up can get busy — we’re fully aware of that, especially with  Nursery and Albany right next door. But we do have plenty of parking options around school, including Yarrow car park, which is just a short stroll away. Please, let’s not block neighbours' driveways or park inconsiderately — it causes frustration and creates the wrong atmosphere. A little extra time, a short walk, and a bit of patience can make all the difference. Let’s look after each other.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we end this week, I just want to say thank you — to the parents, for their unwavering support, and to the children, for simply being ace. Their energy, kindness, and enthusiasm remind us every day why we do what we do.

I’ve often said that the success of St George’s doesn’t lie in flashy initiatives or endless reinvention. It lies in the simple things: honest, traditional relationships. Knowing our children, talking to each other, caring enough to notice. There’s no gimmick to it — just people doing their best for one another, day in, day out.

And honestly? I don’t think you can beat it.
