St George’s is now in a period of interregnum, as we await the Diocese’s appointment of a new vicar to lead our parish forward.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

Folks,

What a week it’s been. Last week’s Muddy Monday deserves a special mention. Wellies on, sleeves rolled up, and spirits high – the children staff! and community set about “winterising” our grounds with a gusto that would make Monty Don proud. From digging and tidying to preparing our outdoor spaces for the colder months, it was teamwork at its finest. A huge thank you to everyone who sent in scruffs, tools, and even wheelbarrows – and an extra thanks to those parents who mucked in with us.

But there’s a bigger lesson in there, too. Perspective. From one angle, it was just a muddy morning – boots caked, clothes grubby, and the promise of a long wash cycle at home. From another, it was children learning resilience, cooperation, and pride in a job well done, and in their school. Lest we forget the very purpose that the school is there is for the kids. No one else. It is there school, of which we are just custodians.  Life’s a lot like that: the view you choose often shapes the story you tell yourself.

That’s why at St George’s we keep urging our children to process their experiences – to ask, “What does this say about me? What did I learn? How can I use it tomorrow?” Because when we zoom out, we often see that the things which felt messy in the moment are the very things that grow us.

As Corinthians reminds us, “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.” Perspective isn’t perfect, but it’s powerful.

So thank you again for your support, your trust, and your positivity. Mud on our boots, smiles on our faces, perspective in our pockets – we keep moving forward together.

Over the summer, Georgina Berry became Georgina McVittie when she married her fiancé, James — a moment of real joy for her and her family. But since then, Georgina has suffered the heartbreak of losing her mum, a loss that has weighed heavily on her heart. In school, cover continues to be managed by our own staff, with additional support from Jenny Leap to ease the pressure on senior leaders. I want to thank Thomas in particular for stepping up so ably in Year 6, ensuring stability and consistency for the children.

Let’s continue to hold Georgina warmly in our prayers. She has lived through a true cacophony of emotions over the last month — joy, loss, and everything in between. Such contrasts are never easy to bear, and our love, care, and prayers surround her and her family in this time. As Romans 12:15 reminds us: “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”

Young Voices Sign Up Form 2026

We go again!!

I am sorry for the confusion around the sign up on last week's newsletter. Due to a typo, families were misinformed that they had longer to sign up. This is an extension and second round of application.

Please note: if you have received an email noting your child got a place- this still stands and they will commence rehearsals on Monday 6th October as previously stated.

I am pleased to confirm that once again, St. George’s will be attending Young Voices this academic year, with the concert due to take place on Friday 13th February, 2026 at the Manchester CO Op Arena (more details will follow).  We will be running the choir after school club every Monday from 3:15pm – 4:15pm, beginning on Monday 6th October, 2025. The choir is open to children in Years 4, 5 and 6.

If your child would like to participate, please fill out the questions below. Submit your answers over the weekend and certainly by 9.00pm on Sunday 5th October 2025.

https://forms.office.com/e/Rm0ssxkHgU

I will confirm places by the end of Sunday 5th October.

Please note: this Microsoft Form will close at 9.00pm on Sunday 5th October. I will inform you of your child's place in the choir via email as soon after this as possible on Sunday night- those unsuccessful, will also be informed.

Please note, places are limited and completing the form does not automatically guarantee a place on the choir. We will work on a first come basis whilst also considering previous years’ participation in the choir.

We ask that if your child does have a place, they are committed to coming every week and are able to attend the concert- we also require informing of absence if they are unable to make the rehearsal. If your child for some reason is unable to attend, please simply inform Sharon on the school phone line (I really appreciate your help with this).

More information can be found from the web site, https://www.youngvoices.co.uk.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we close this week, let’s hold onto that thought about perspective. Muddy boots dry, playgrounds clean, lessons learned — what looked like mess became growth. It’s the same for us all: what feels like hard work now often reveals itself later as progress.

To our kids— thank you for throwing yourselves in with such joy. To our parents — thank you for your support, your patience, and your humour. Together we remind ourselves that while we can’t always control the weather or the mud, we can always choose how we see it, and what we make of it.

As Atticus Finch reminds us in To Kill a Mockingbird: “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”

Something to ponder this weekend: in school, as in life, how often do we pause to see things from another’s shoes?
