Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

“Advent reminds us that good things come not when we rush, but when we ready ourselves.”

Apologies for the tardy dispatch of this week’s newsletter — I’ve been teaching over at Mossy, stepping back into the joy of the classroom (and, yes, remembering just how much goes into each hour with our kids!).

That said, the delay feels oddly fitting. We’re on the cusp of Advent — a season that teaches us not to race ahead, but to pause, prepare, and ponder. It’s a season not of frantic doing, but of meaningful becoming.

This year, we’re embracing Advent across school in quiet, joyful ways — from reflective moments to kind actions, from story-sharing to simple stillness. And we’re journeying together in faith and friendship — a little like the ‘Christmas Journey’ Rachel from St Michael’s is making across schools, reminding us of the roads that connect us, the candles that guide us, and the peace that’s found when we take time to look up and notice.

So if this newsletter reaches you a little later than usual… take it as a gentle nudge. A reminder that the best things often arrive not in haste, but in their own, grace-filled time.

🎄 A Christmas Journey — More than Miles, A Message of Light

On Monday 1st December (reserve: Monday 8th), Rachel Rongong, the Headteacher of St Michael’s CE, will lace up her trainers and run an astonishing 24 miles — connecting our Church of England primary schools across Chorley and beyond. I love this.

But this isn’t just a run. It’s a pilgrimage of purpose — a moving celebration of Advent, the season where we wait, we hope, and we prepare. Like the shepherds journeying under starry skies, Rachel’s route will wind from school to school, carrying with her messages of peace, joy, and goodwill.

As she passes our school, we’ll be:

  • Sending a prayer of blessing to be carried on to the next school

  • Giving a big cheer from the kids

  • And perhaps even sending a staff member to join a leg of the journey!

In a world often rushing towards Christmas, this reminds us that Advent is a journey, not a race — and one best shared with others.

As Gandalf once said (with surprisingly Advent-ish wisdom):

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”

So let’s use this time to pause, reflect, and pass on the light — one prayer, one smile, one mile at a time, adn wish Rachel all the very best!

This Week’s Notices:

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we begin to glimpse the first lights of Advent, let’s remember that this season isn’t just about arrival — it’s about anticipation. About creating space. About preparing our hearts, homes, and habits for something deeper than decorations.

Whether your week is calm or chaotic, filled with joy or juggling, let it be threaded with moments of reflection — even if just a minute. A pause in the car. A kind word to a stranger. A few seconds to breathe before the next thing begins.

We are 7 days from Advent, but the invitation to step gently has already begun. As the old saying goes, “Peace doesn’t always mean silence — sometimes it means being steady in the noise.”

Wishing you moments of steadiness, and a week rooted in kindness.
