Apropos the Alpine Chapel…
Let’s rewind. Some time ago, we submitted a bid to improve our wraparound provision—and to our delight, it was successful. But as with many things lately, costs spiralled. For a while, it looked like the project might stall entirely, which would have meant returning the £64,000 grant—frankly, a daft outcome.
I know it sometimes feels like we’re always talking about money—but this really is a transformational project, and we’re deeply grateful for everyone helping to make it a reality. I’m actually not naturally comfortable asking for big donations—but thankfully, others have stepped in. Thanks to an incredible blend of support—a private donation from Shackerley, £5,000 from our PTFA, church support, and a grant from the Diocese—we can now go ahead.
The Alpine Chapel, a decent wooden chalet, will house additional places in our wraparound care, act as a meeting and training room, and offer a dedicated space for RE and spiritual reflection. Once discussions are held with our new vicar (once appointed), I hope we’ll also be able to hold services there—a true chapelette in every sense.
It’s still early days—but this will be a meaningful addition to the school’s heartbeat. That said, we’ll need to furnish it… so if you happen to know any secret pots of money or generous benefactors, do get in touch.
