Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

Stepping out of the week, and into the weekend, Advent is beginning to glow with that gentle, unmistakable shimmer it brings every year — a blend of anticipation, calm, joy, and the occasional dash of December zhuzh. School is alive with rehearsals, angel wings, tinsel that refuses to behave, and kids practising their lines with a seriousness that would make the RSC blush.

Our Year 2 Nativity has been a particular delight — tender, funny, heartfelt, and full of those tiny moments where you catch your breath and remember why these stories matter. There’s something profoundly beautiful about watching children retell the ancient tale of hope breaking into the world, and doing it with such sincerity that even the most seasoned adult feels their heart soften.

Alongside it, the Infant Christmas Sing-Alongs have brought their own loveliness — joyful noise, seasonal sparkle, and the kind of wholehearted singing that could lift even the most mulligrub-laden soul. This time of year has a way of drawing us together, reminding us that even in the rush and the busyness, there is room for wonder.

As we move into the final week of term, here’s everything you need to help navigate the festivities — the Muddy Monday adventure, the Junior production details, reminders, and the week’s quick-fire essentials.

Struggling over Christmas? The children and family well being services maybe a good point of contact? From my experience in school, they're a great group of people who actually do help and advice.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we move into the final stretch of term, Advent continues to offer its soft nudge to slow down — just a fraction — and pay attention to the moments that carry meaning. The Year 2 Nativity and the Infant Sing-Along have shown us again that Christmas doesn’t shout; it murmurs. It comes through lantern-glow smiles, whispered lines, slightly wonky halos, and children singing with that rare, unfiltered sincerity adults often forget how to muster.

So perhaps here is our thought to ponder this week:
In a season full of noise and haste, it is often the quietest moments that recalibrate us.
A look of pride. A shared laugh. A child reaching for your hand without thinking. These tiny, unheralded things have a way of restoring our balance far more than the grand gestures ever do.

John’s gospel reminds us that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” May that gentle light — steady, patient, unassuming — sit with you and your families in the days ahead.

Have a peaceful weekend.
