St George’s remains in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the  Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

Welcome backfolks  to the first newsletter of 2026 — a new year opening before us, familiar routines returning, and the school once again filled with the sounds and life that make it what it is. There’s a particular stillness to these early days of January, a sense of beginning again with intention rather than haste.

As we step into the year ahead, we do so together — grounded in what we know matters most: care, consistency, and the quiet work of helping children grow in confidence, kindness, and character. It’s good to be back.

Spelling help!

Spelling plays a vital role in children’s reading, writing and overall confidence, and as a school we are continuing to boost its profile. We would like to remind parents about Spelling Shed, which is an excellent online tool to support spelling practice at home. Each week, class teachers upload the children’s spellings to Spelling Shed, where pupils can practise them through fun, game-based activities. We recommend that children complete at least three games each week. To celebrate effort and success, the top three children on Spelling Shed will receive a certificate in worship each week, alongside a certificate for the highest scoring class. Please encourage your child to make regular use of this valuable resource.

Alongside Spelling Shed, we also use ‘sticky word’ strategies from our Red Rose Spelling scheme to help children remember spelling rules and conventions. These strategies are taught regularly in school and should be familiar to the children. They are also very effective for home practice.

· Sticky Note Spelling

· Colourful Words

· Triangle Words

· Read, Turn, Write, Check

Please find attached a more detailed explanation of how each strategy works.

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child develop strong spelling skills.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

And finally, something to ponder as the year finds its rhythm again: progress rarely comes from grand gestures. More often, it grows from small, faithful habits — turning up, paying attention, giving time, and choosing kindness when it would be easier to rush past. Those quiet choices shape children more than we sometimes realise.

Have a good week ahead.
