St George’s remains in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the  Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

What does a good week at school really look like? It’s rarely defined by the loud moments or the obvious achievements. More often, it’s shaped in the small, easily overlooked things — a child sticking with a tricky spelling instead of giving up, a calm word at the door, a routine that brings reassurance rather than rush. These are the moments that don’t always make headlines, but they do the real work.

As school settles further into its rhythm, this week feels quietly important. Not flashy. Not frenetic. Just purposeful. There’s a steadiness returning to classrooms and corridors, where learning is happening alongside confidence, kindness, and character — built one choice at a time, by individuals doing what they can.

The Bible puts it simply in Zechariah 4:10: “Do not despise these small beginnings.” It’s a timely reminder that change rarely arrives all at once; it grows because people decide that their part matters.

And, apropos of that, Ted Lasso had it right when he said, “Doing the right thing is never the wrong thing.” A line worth holding onto as we move through the term — for children and adults alike.

Here’s what’s coming up this week, and the small things that, together, make a very big difference.

Quick Read - The Tip of the Iceberg

A quick skim for the key things bubbling just beneath the surface this week:

  • Cookery Club
A phenomenal club — and currently full. We now have a waiting list.
If you’d like your child added, please email r.fell@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk.
We’re keen to keep this brilliant provision running in school for as long as possible.

  • Pancake Day Menu
The themed menu is now live on ScoPay.
Huge praise to the kitchen team — the meals are consistently delicious and much-loved.
    📅 Friday 13th February

  • School Nurse Drop-In I’d also like to let you know that the school nurse monthly drop in sessions will be starting. The first session will be on Tuesday 21st January at 2:00pm. You are very welcome to come into school and speak to the school nursing team about a range of topics, including emotional health, diet, healthy lifestyles, sleep, bed wetting and toileting concerns, and behaviour. Please do make use of this extremely helpful service.

  • Year 2 – Bibby’s Farm
A reminder that deposits are now due on ScoPay.
Thank you to those who’ve already paid — it really helps us secure arrangements smoothly.

Hello and best wishes for the year ahead.

I wanted to share with you dates for our upcoming Parent & Carer Peer support sessions, to be shared with any families who may benefit.

Groups are informal, parent-led, and professionally supported. Groups provide opportunities for parents and carers to share information and support to help them support their young person with issues which may be affecting their mental health and wellbeing.

Some groups are SEND specific, but all welcome, no booking or referral needed. Should any parents benefit from a 1-1 conversation beforehand please get in touch.

Many thanks, and the details are below.

From Georgina - English Lead in School - She's been busy busy busy

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March 2026. This year’s theme is “Be Your Book”, and children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book or a character from their favourite book.

All children are asked to bring the book they are dressed as (or the book their character is from) on the day, as it will be used as part of our activities throughout World Book Day.

We understand that money is tight for many families in today’s climate. If your child has not had a new book purchased for them since September, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Mrs McVittie – g.mcvittie@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk . School will be happy to organise the purchase of a new book for your child, which they can use and bring in for World Book Day this year.

We can’t wait to see all of your amazing costumes!

As it is the national year of reading, at St George’s we are going to be having half termly reading challenges on the newsletter for your children to take part in! Their creations will be celebrated on display in the library and the school Facebook page/website.

SPRING 1 READING CHALLENGE:

Have you ever been reading a book and wished you could be somewhere else? The beach? On the moon? A treehouse? A dragon’s cave? Now is your chance?

This half terms reading challenge is to take a picture of yourself reading in the most weird and unusual place you can possibly think of!

If you are stuck for ideas, have a quick look with your adults on google. There are lots of amazing ideas!

All your entries will be celebrated at the end of the half term in our Friday celebration assembly.  Challenge entries need to be submitted by Sunday 8th February 2026.

Please send your pictures to the library email address – librarian@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk

A pause for thought

In the busyness of term-time, it’s easy to underestimate the power of small, ordinary actions. Turning up. Listening properly. Following through. These moments rarely shout, but they shape children deeply — building trust, confidence, and a sense that they matter.

Perhaps that’s worth holding onto this week: what feels small to us can feel significant to a child.

Have a great weekend, Andy.
