St George’s remains in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the  Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

There are moments when doing the ordinary things well feels harder than it should. When routines take effort, patience wears thin, and trust — in ourselves, in others, in God — doesn’t come easily, especially after a break in trust.  This week’s newsletter begins there.

School life, like life more broadly, isn’t always lived in the spotlight. Much of it happens in the quieter spaces, where perseverance matters more than polish, and faith is less about certainty and more about choosing to keep going. For many of us, trusting God in difficult seasons is not an act of confidence, but of courage.

The Bible reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). That’s not always simple, but it is steadying.

Below you’ll find the practicalities of the week ahead — the reminders, the dates, the small but important details — all held within that bigger picture of care, growth, and hope.

Quick Read - The Tip of the Iceberg

A few things just beneath the surface this week that are worth a quick look:

Muddy Monday – 2nd February
Our next Muddy Monday is coming up. Usual arrangements apply — Forest School clothes, and if you’re able, tools such as spades and trowels are always welcome. Parent helpers make a big difference — thank you.

School Nurse Drop-In
The recent drop-in was ace and very well attended. We hope you found it useful, and it was genuinely lovely to have the school nursing team in school and accessible to families.

Pancake Day Menu – 13th February
This year’s menu has a real focus on desserts (for obvious reasons!).
The full menu is now live on ScoPay.

Year 2 – Bibby’s Farm
A reminder that payments are now due for current Year 2 children.
Please make payments via ScoPay — thank you.

As it is the national year of reading, at St George’s we are going to be having half termly reading challenges on the newsletter for your children to take part in! Their creations will be celebrated on display in the library and the school Facebook page/website.

SPRING 1 READING CHALLENGE:

Have you ever been reading a book and wished you could be somewhere else? The beach? On the moon? A treehouse? A dragon’s cave? Now is your chance?

This half terms reading challenge is to take a picture of yourself reading in the most weird and unusual place you can possibly think of!

If you are stuck for ideas, have a quick look with your adults on google. There are lots of amazing ideas!

All your entries will be celebrated at the end of the half term in our Friday celebration assembly.  Challenge entries need to be submitted by Sunday 8th February 2026.

Please send your pictures to the library email address – librarian@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk

We had this email from Angela Grundy, our school attendance support.

Your school attendance percentage is currently really good and your overall % is one of the highest in the locality! It stands at 96.8% which is excellent – and a slight increase from last year at the same time – the school has no severely absent children because your monitoring of pupils attendance and support for those children dipping into the PA is so robust. Parents and staff can be commended on their continued support in the school's management of attendance and punctuality! Keep under constant review your policy on not fining for those holiday absences. You may need to start.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we move through the heart of January, thank you for the way you continue to partner with us — in the routines, the reminders, and the everyday moments that keep school life running smoothly. The small things you do consistently make a very real difference.

We’ll keep doing what we do best: showing up, paying attention, and putting children at the centre of everything.

Have a good week ahead.
