St George’s remains in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the  Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

If the school year were a match, we’ve just reached the half-time whistle. Not the end. Not the trophy lift. Just that important pause where you step back, take breath, and look at the scoreboard — not just the goals scored, but the effort shown, the teamwork formed, the shape of play.

We are, give or take, halfway through the academic year. And like any good side, what matters isn’t flawless performance. It’s resilience when things get tough. It’s consistency in training. It’s the willingness to listen, adjust, and go again.

What I’ve seen in school this week gives real cause for encouragement. Classrooms that feel purposeful. Children showing determination. Staff grafting quietly and professionally. Growth that isn’t always loud — but is absolutely happening.

Half term gives us that reset. A chance to rest, regroup, and return sharper for the second half of the year.

And here’s the thing about good teams — they don’t wait for the final whistle to start playing well. They build momentum now.

Quick Read - The Tip of the Iceberg

  • Education Sunday
    Thank you to everyone who attended. It genuinely matters. We’d love to see this continue to grow — it’s part of who we are as a Church school. Let’s keep building on it together.

  • Fidgets in School
    Please do not send fidget toys into school. They are, in most cases, simply toys and can undermine focus and routines. Where children genuinely require additional support, we have clear processes in place. If you have concerns, please speak directly with our SENCO. We’ll always work with you — but we need consistency.

  • PGL & Bibby’s Farm
    A reminder that the next payments are now due. School has upcoming invoices to settle, so your prompt support is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Personal Responsibility
    We continue to encourage children to take ownership — of behaviour, of effort, of presentation. That partnership between home and school is powerful. Small expectations, consistently applied, make a big difference.

  • PE Kit
    PE days remain school uniform colours — black and red. They are not non-uniform days. Thank you for helping us keep standards clear and consistent.

The Chapel – An Update

I’m delighted to share a proper update on our new wooden building — soon to be known simply as The Chapel.

Situated in the quiet area of the junior playground, this beautiful timber space will become a multi-purpose room for the whole school community. Wraparound services will use it daily, providing additional capacity and flexibility. It will also make voting day arrangements far smoother, reducing disruption to learning — something we’ve long wanted to improve.

During the school week, children will use the space for group work, small-group intervention, reflection, and enrichment. And, once St George’s has a new Vicar appointed, I very much hope we will be able to offer services and collective worship there too — creating a calm, dedicated space at the heart of school life.

What makes this project especially meaningful is how it has come together. This £100,000 development has been made viable through the generosity and partnership of so many:

  • Shackerley Buildings, whose support has been remarkable;

  • You, our families, through PTFA fundraising;

  • A successful bid from the Local Authority;

  • And tremendous backing from the Diocese.

It has been magnificently funded by the very best people — our community.

Installation is due over Easter, and once in place, it will become a tremendous asset to the school for years to come.

And that’s not all. We have a few further ideas for how this space might serve children and families.

Watch this space.

Parking & Our Neighbours
A gentle but important reminder: please park considerately and avoid cutting through neighbouring hedges or private spaces. It isn’t appropriate, and it places strain on relationships that matter.

School sits within a shared community. What feels like a small shortcut to one person can feel very different to someone standing on the other side of the hedge.

I often think of the “beach ball” analogy. If two people stand opposite each other, one sees the red side, the other sees the blue. Both are telling the truth — but only from their angle. It’s only when we step around the ball that we understand the full picture.

Let’s keep stepping around the ball. Let’s keep seeing it from the neighbour’s perspective as well as our own. We are better when we work together.

This is worth perusing from the Diocese. Iain Parkes is the director of education over at the Cathedral; he's a good lad actually, who really cares about people - and I liek that. Whilst we're not due an inspection, unless of course OFSTE receive qualifying parental complaints, his letter is worth noting.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we reach half term, thank you for the way you continue to walk this journey with us. We won’t always get everything perfect — and nor will you — but what matters is the spirit in which we respond, adjust, and keep moving forward.

When we pause long enough to see the whole beach ball, not just our side of it, something shifts. Understanding grows. Tension eases. Community strengthens.

Enjoy the break. Rest well. And we’ll go again — together — for the second half.
