St George’s remains in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the  Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

I was thinking this week about how easy it is to focus on what’s not quite right.

A small frustration.
A delay.
Something that didn’t go as planned.

They tend to grab our attention first.

And yet, running quietly alongside those moments are dozens of things that do go right; the routines that hold, the kindness shown, the effort given, the steady dependability of people simply getting on with what needs to be done.

Schools are full of those moments.

They don’t always shout the loudest, but they matter the most.

So perhaps this week is a gentle reminder to notice both; to acknowledge where things can improve, of course, but also to recognise what is already working, already strong, and already worth valuing.

Because when we do that, something shifts.

And that, in many ways, is what this week in school has felt like.

Quick Read - The Tip of the Iceberg

Muddy Monday
Back again — usual arrangements. Please send children in appropriate clothes, and if you’re able to help, tools and parent support are always very welcome. Check the calendar for more details.

Confirmation (Year 6)
A reminder that Confirmation classes are now open for sign-up. A really special opportunity for those who wish to take part. See the below form more details.

Headlice
We are aware of cases across school, particularly in Class 7. Please check hair regularly at home. The NHS recommends wet combing with a detection comb and, where needed, appropriate treatment.

PE Kit
A reminder that PE kit should remain school colours (red and black). This isn’t a non-uniform day.

Parents’ Evening
Thank you for your support this week. These evenings really do matter. The strength of this school lies in the team approach between home and school — it was good to see that in action.

Easter Bingo
Coming up as per calendar below! My thanks to the PTFA for organising what is always a brilliant event. Your effort and energy never go unnoticed, or taken for granted

The Chapel
Due to arrive over Easter, at long last!!! Exciting times ahead. This will be a tremendous addition to school life, and we’re looking forward to seeing it take shape.

St George's Church invite you to join them for a very special service on Holy Wednesday 1st April

They will be reading from Stephen Cotterell’s The Nail. The moving first person accounts from eyewitnesses and active participants place you right in the heart of events leading to the crucifixion and beyond. As each witness tells their story they give their excuse for passing responsibility for the crucifixion nails to another who then takes up the story.

Year 6? Fancy being confirmed?

Please fill in the form in block capitals,  by the 27th of March. (If your child has not been baptised or christened then please contact Fr Jordan so that we may baptise your child, so that they can be confirmed). Thanks and blessings, Fr Jordan

For more details, check out newsletter number for all the details, or email Fr Jordan, or Fr Peter.

Why we're doing It

On 30 May, Fr David, Andy Purcell, Rob Horne and Si Ball are taking part in a HYROX event in Riga, Latvia. We are hoping to raise money for the charity, Little Hearts Matter, which is the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting and empowering anyone affected by the diagnosis of a single ventricle heart condition – or half a working heart.

Little Hearts Matter is a charity that has helped many children and their families, following their diagnosis. One of those children is Harrison, who is Fr David’s nephew. He was born with half a working heart, and had three open heart operations by the age of five. Now 13, Little Hearts Matter have supported him and his family as he has been growing up, and continue to be a source of information and support as he continues to grow and develop.

Our hope is to raise funds for this vital work, in order that other children and their families can have the support that Harrison’s family has received, and know that they are not facing this diagnosis alone.

Please give generously if you are able, to help Little Hearts Matter achieve their vision to ‘see children teenagers, adults, and their families, living with a single ventricle heart condition cope with the diagnosis of their condition and to support them as they strive to achieve their full potential.’

If you support charities, and haven't yet chosen this years, may we tempt you? Click here if you fancy sponsoring us

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we come to the end of this week, we’re reminded just how brilliant diversity is.

To our Muslim families, a massive Eid Mubarak. hope your celebrations are filled with joy, family, and far too many sweets (kids, I know you’ll do your best with that part).

And to the Christian families, as we move into the final two weeks of Lent, I wish you well in this time of reflection, patience and quiet preparation. I have to say, im very ready for a Whisky!!

Different journeys, different traditions and yet, at their heart, so much is shared: kindness, generosity, forgiveness, and care for one another.

In school, we see that every day. KIds playing together, learning together, laughing together, not worrying about labels, just getting on with the important business of being good people. Its really not rocket science.

There’s something in that for all of us.

Because when we focus on what we share, rather than what separates us, something rather special happens.

We become stronger. Kinder. Better and more chilled together. And who doesn't need a friend every now and then?

Have a great weekend folks,

Andy
