St George’s remains in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the  Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

There’s something about the final day of term that feels a little like standing at the edge of something. Bags a bit lighter. Classrooms a little noisier. A sense that we’ve reached a natural pause, not an ending of course, just a moment to take stock before we go again.

Next week is Holy Week, one of my favourite weeks as a Christian - perhaps favourite may not be the right word - more thought provoking, and perspective setting. Holy Week is a story that doesn’t follow the path you might expect. It begins with celebration, moves through challenge and uncertainty, and only later reveals its meaning. It’s not neat. It’s not predictable. But it is full of resilience, hope, and the reminder that even when things feel unsettled, something good can still be unfolding.

And perhaps there’s something in that for us.

This term hasn’t been perfect, no term ever is, and to be honest, I dont aim for it to be, but what fills me with utter pride is the fact it has been full of effort, growth, kindness, and a great deal of quiet determination. The kind that doesn’t always shout, but absolutely matters.

So as we reach the end of term, thank you. For the support, the patience, the partnership, and the hundred small things you do that help this place work as well as it does.

Enjoy the break when it comes. And as Holy Week unfolds, perhaps take a moment to notice that not every story reveals its purpose straight away.

Sometimes, you have to stay with it.

Take it easy folks,

Andy

Could we kindly ask all parents to clear any outstanding debts before the start of next term?

Some accounts are mounting up, and it is essential these are settled to ensure continued access to after-school care.

Sharon, or Laura will be sending additional letters with further details, and your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

If you are unable to clear your debt please contact school, otherwise should the debt still persist after Easter access to they after school club care will have to be denied. Sorry.

Another plug- you've been incredibly generous already!

On 30 May, Fr David, Andy Purcell, Rob Horne and Si Ball are taking part in a HYROX event in Riga, Latvia. We are hoping to raise money for the charity, Little Hearts Matter, which is the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting and empowering anyone affected by the diagnosis of a single ventricle heart condition – or half a working heart.

Little Hearts Matter is a charity that has helped many children and their families, following their diagnosis. One of those children is Harrison, who is Fr David’s nephew. He was born with half a working heart, and had three open heart operations by the age of five. Now 13, Little Hearts Matter have supported him and his family as he has been growing up, and continue to be a source of information and support as he continues to grow and develop.

Our hope is to raise funds for this vital work, in order that other children and their families can have the support that Harrison’s family has received, and know that they are not facing this diagnosis alone.

Please give generously if you are able, to help Little Hearts Matter achieve their vision to ‘see children teenagers, adults, and their families, living with a single ventricle heart condition cope with the diagnosis of their condition and to support them as they strive to achieve their full potential.’

Juniors Unaccompanied on MUGA

It has been noted that an increasing number of Junior children are arriving early to use the MUGA for football. We are delighted to see this space being enjoyed. It is a valuable resource and very much there to be used. However, children must not be on site unsupervised before the start of the school day. This presents a safety risk, as there is no staff supervision in place at that time.

Attendance

The attendance picture has been terrific overall this half-term. Thank you for your efforts in ensuring children are in school wherever possible. Regular attendance matters greatly, not only for academic progress, where missed time can disrupt sequences of learning, but also for pupils’ emotional wellbeing. When absence becomes habitual, it can lead to increased anxiety about returning to school. Being in each day, crossing the threshold, seeing familiar adults and continuing to build friendships and relationships all play a vital role in children feeling secure, confident and ready to learn.

Confirmation (Year 6)
Thank you to all those children who have chosen to be confirmed. Details from Fr. Jordan TBC- as soon as these arrive, we will let you know.

Spring/Summer Menu & Meal Price Update

Our Spring/Summer menu will be available after the Easter holidays, and it has now been updated on Scopay. Please take a moment to look through the options and make your meal choices for the new term.

As shared in a February newsletter, the cost of a KS2 school meal will increase from £2.90 to £3.00 from April, following guidance from Lancashire Catering Service and rising food and staffing costs.

We remain committed to offering nutritious, good‑quality meals and appreciate your understanding as we make this necessary adjustment.

Thank you for your continued support.

Attendance at school is incredibly important for children's success, confidence, and wellbeing. Here are five friendly and practical tips for parents to help support and improve your child's attendance:

  1. Set Up Consistent Routines: Establishing regular bedtimes and morning routines helps your child feel secure and ready to learn, making mornings smoother and less stressful.

  2. Celebrate Attendance Successes: Notice and praise your child for good attendance and punctuality. Positive reinforcement goes a long way and encourages continued effort.

  3. Open Conversations About Attendance: Regularly discuss with your child why consistent school attendance matters and how it benefits their learning and friendships.

  4. Stay Connected with School: Keep in touch with teachers and school staff if any attendance issues arise. Working together ensures we can quickly overcome barriers and offer the right support.

  5. Encourage Reflection: Help your child to self-reflect on their attendance habits and discuss openly any challenges they're facing, supporting them in building a sense of responsibility and resilience.

Trialling key stage 2 national curriculum mathematics assessment materials

Dear Parent/Carer

We are writing to let you know that your child’s school will be trialling national
curriculum assessment materials for key stage 2 in mathematics. The National
Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) is doing this work for the Standards
and Testing Agency (STA), which is part of the Department for Education. Each
year, the STA will trial potential future national curriculum tests with a representative sample of pupils and schools across the country. This trial plays a critical role in developing tests that accurately measure pupils’ attainment and progress and ensure that individual groups are neither advantaged nor disadvantaged. Pupils will complete these assessments on a set date during the period 13 to 24 April 2026.

This project is confidential so no report of this work will identify any school or
pupil that participates. Pupils should not be under any additional stress by helping with this research and trialling. The purpose of these trials is to ‘test the tests’ and not the pupils. Our test administrators engage with the pupils and explain that they are helping with research, and they are often asked their opinion of the questions.

Pupils’ background data will be collected from and confirmed with the school and will be used by STA in their analysis of the trial.

The privacy notice at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/privacyinformation-early-years-foundation-stage-to-key-stage-3 sets out compliance with the
requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to ensure pupil data is securely processed. As these are tests in the development stage, schools do not receive results from these assessments.

Further information about these trials is available on our website:

As we wrap up this week, and this term here’s something to ponder:

And as we step into the Easter break, the story that began in Holy Week turns, quite brilliantly, on its head.

From uncertainty… to hope.
From waiting… to something new.
From things looking a bit bleak… to, quite frankly, joy breaking back in.

Easter Sunday has a habit of doing that.

Before we get there, a huge thank you to our PTFA for organising the Easter Bingo — a brilliant event, full of laughter, community spirit, and (no doubt) a competitive edge or two. Your effort never goes unnoticed, and it brings real joy to the school community. An incredible £578 was raised tonight thank you for all your support the school appreciate it so much!

So whether your break involves chocolate eggs, family time, a bit of rest, or just a slower start to the day, enjoy it. Properly. You’ve earned it — kids and adults alike.

And if nothing else, hold onto this: things don’t always stay difficult. Sometimes, when you least expect it, they turn.

Have a wonderful Easter.

Cheers y'all,

Andy
