Two churches. One parish.

Church life & parish updates

For information about worship, services, events, and church life, please search either parish below:

  • St George’s, Chorley

  • All Saints, Chorley

  • Fr Jordan Bentliffe

St George’s remains in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the  Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

I read something recently that made me stop scrolling for a moment.

Apparently, if you put a lobster into cold water and slowly heat it up, it won’t notice the danger straight away. It adapts gradually to the changing temperature until eventually it’s overwhelmed.

Now, whether that’s scientifically perfect or not almost doesn’t matter. The point does.

Human beings can be a bit like that too.

We adapt. We keep going. We normalise busyness, pressure, tiredness, noise. Sometimes we become so used to rushing through life that we stop noticing the good things happening around us.

And yet, every now and then, something cuts through the noise.

Sunshine arriving after weeks of grey skies.
A proper laugh - I love a proper uncontrolled laugh - its mega.
A child saying something unexpectedly wise.
Someone showing kindness at exactly the right moment.

Little reminders that life is not just about enduring the heat, it’s about noticing the warmth too, and in the words of the Lathoms, shows us just "how beautiful life can be....."

And perhaps that’s the challenge this week.

Not simply to get through life.

But to actually notice it while we’re living it.

Quick Read - The Tip of the Iceberg

A few things just beneath the surface this week:

Communication Check
Please make sure your communication links are all up to date — Website Calendar, Facebook and SCOpay in particular. If anything isn’t working properly, or you think you may be missing information, please let us know and we’ll sort it together.

Movie Night
Movie Night was absolutely mega. A huge thank you to all the staff who gave up their time to make it happen — and to the children, who were brilliant throughout.

Uniform Shed
The Uniform Shed is now fully up and running in its new location. Thank you again to everyone supporting it through donations, swaps and kindness. It’s one of those small ideas that quietly makes a big difference.

The Children
I remain incredibly proud of the children. They really are lovely kids. Kind, funny, resilient, thoughtful — and increasingly confident in themselves.
Let’s make sure they know that. And perhaps more importantly, let’s help them understand why they are.

Half Term
Have a wonderful half term. Rest. Reset. Eat something nice. Get outside if the sun behaves itself. And thank you, as always, for the support, humour and partnership you continue to show the school.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

Life moves quickly. Terms race by. Children grow while we’re busy looking the other way.

So if you get chance over the break, slow it down a little.

Laugh properly.
Put the phone down occasionally.
Notice the people around you.

Stop chasing the next thing, enjoy what you have
Remind the kids what’s good about them — not just what they’ve achieved, but who they are.

Because confidence built on kindness, character and belonging lasts far longer than confidence built on applause alone.

Thank you for another half term of support, humour, patience and partnership.

Now go and enjoy the break.

You’ve earned it.

All the best,

Andy
