St George’s remain in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

Welcome to this week's newsletter.

At this time of year, change seems to be everywhere.

Children begin wondering who their new teacher might be.
Parents start thinking about new classes, new routines, and, for some, entirely new schools.
Year 6 children begin their final chapter with us.
New children prepare to join our community.
Behind the scenes, staff begin planning for September and the opportunities a new academic year will bring.

For some people, change is exciting.

For others, it can feel unsettling.

One thing I've learned over the years is that people rarely struggle with change itself. They struggle with the loss of certainty that often comes with it.

We like to know what's coming.
We like familiar faces, familiar routines, and familiar places.

And yet, some of life's greatest opportunities arrive wrapped in uncertainty.

A new friendship.
A new class.
A new challenge.
A new chapter.

The temptation is to focus on what we're leaving behind.

The opportunity is to focus on what we're moving towards.

That doesn't mean pretending change is easy. It isn't.

It simply means recognising that growth often arrives wearing the clothes of uncertainty.

As adults, we have an important role to play here. Children take their cues from us. If we approach change with curiosity rather than anxiety, confidence rather than speculation, and optimism rather than fear, they are far more likely to do the same.

So as we move towards the final few weeks of the year, perhaps there's a question for all of us:

What am I gaining, rather than what am I losing?

The answer isn't always obvious immediately.

But it's usually there.

Quick Read - The Tip of the Iceberg

A few things just beneath the surface this week:

A Gentle (Desperate) Plea About Debts
If you have any outstanding balances for Year 6 PGL, this year's Bibby's Farm visit, Late Stay, Breakfast Club, or any other school-related payments, please start chipping away at them where possible.

I know times can be tight. I know life gets busy. I know that opening SCOpay isn't always the most exciting way to spend an evening.

However, somewhere in school there is a bursar quietly looking at spreadsheets and sighing heavily into a cup of tea.

Every little helps, and prompt payment genuinely does make a difference. Thank you.

Spare Underwear
We seem to be operating a small but thriving underwear exchange programme.

If your child has had to borrow school underwear following an accident, please could you wash it and return it to school.

A Busy Few Weeks Ahead
We are moving into one of the busiest periods of the school year. Please keep an eye on the school calendar, Facebook and SCOpay so that nothing catches you by surprise.

Questions? Ask Away.
If you're unsure about something, email me.

Chances are, if you're wondering about it, somebody else is too.

In fact, I'm considering introducing a "You Asked, We Answered" section in future newsletters, where we tackle common questions and clear up confusion before it becomes confusion's bigger, uglier cousin.

The final half term of the year always arrives quickly. Let's keep talking, keep asking questions, and keep helping one another over the finish line.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we move towards the end of another busy week, we're reminded that change is all around us.

Children are growing. Classes are preparing for transition. New opportunities are appearing on the horizon. Some chapters are drawing to a close, whilst others are only just beginning.

That can feel exciting.

It can also feel a little uncertain.

Like me, many Christians will have celebrated Corpus Christi — a festival that, at its heart, reminds us that we are not meant to walk life's journey alone. We belong to something bigger than ourselves. A community. A family. A shared story.

Perhaps that's worth remembering as we navigate the changes ahead.

Because whilst circumstances may change, and seasons may come and go, one thing remains wonderfully constant: the people around us.

The encouragement.
The friendship.
The support.
The shared laughter.

And in schools, just as in life, those things matter more than we sometimes realise.

So wherever the next few weeks take us, let's move forward together — with curiosity, confidence and a little faith that the next chapter may be even better than the last.

Have a wonderful weekend.
