St George’s remains in a period of interregnum, as we continue to await the Church Reps appointment of a new vicar to lead the parish forward. During this time, worship and parish life continue with the support of the wider ministry team and our friends at All Saints.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

There are weeks in school that arrive politely, sit quietly in the corner, and mind their own business.

This was not one of them.

This week arrived wearing sunglasses, carrying a clipboard, and shouting, “Right then, who’s ready?” before anyone had quite finished their brew.

The heatwave has certainly made itself known. Classrooms have been warm, water bottles have become sacred objects, and every patch of shade has briefly had the status of prime real estate. And yet, despite the heat, school has been absolutely full of life.

Phenomenal events. Brilliant children. Staff quietly grafting behind the scenes. Parents showing up, supporting, cheering, helping, understanding. The kind of week where you look around and think: yes, this is busy, but goodness me, it’s good.

There has been a real sense of energy around school - not just busyness, but joy. The sort of joy that comes from children being involved, families being part of things, and everyone somehow managing to keep going even when the weather appears to have mistaken Chorley for Marbella.

So this week’s newsletter is a celebration really.

Of sunshine.
Of effort.
Of community.
Of the slightly sticky, slightly chaotic, completely wonderful rhythm of school life at this time of year.

It’s been hot.
It’s been full-on.
It’s been fab.

Quick Read - The Tip of the Iceberg

There is a lot going on
We are entering that wonderfully busy end-of-year period where the calendar looks like it has been attacked by a highlighter. Please keep checking dates, emails, SCOpay and the website calendar. Staying organised really helps — for you, for us, and for the kids.

Keep calm when things wobble
With this much happening, the odd thing may not go perfectly. A form may be missed, a PE kit may vanish, a date may need checking, or a child may announce something important at 8:42am that was apparently needed “three weeks ago”. Don’t panic. Talk to us. We’ll sort what we can, calmly and sensibly.

Debts and payments
Please keep chipping away at any outstanding debts — trips, Late Stay, Breakfast Club, PGL, Bibby’s Farm, lunches and anything else lurking on SCopay. We know things are expensive, but these balances do matter and help us keep provision running properly.

Uniform still matters
Even when the weather is warm, the diary is busy, and everyone is limping towards July with a water bottle and mild bewilderment, uniform still matters. Please keep standards high: school colours, proper PE kit, and a clear sense that we are still very much in term time.

Final thought
Busy doesn’t have to mean chaotic. If we keep communicating, stay calm, and work together, we’ll get through the next few weeks with a smile — possibly a tired one, but a smile nonetheless.

Gifts for Teachers

As is now a tradition in school, but for those parents who are new to us at Christmas and at end of year, we ask, with the utmost respect for you not to send gifts in. We ask primarily, if you’re happy with the work we have done, for your thanks – it is so powerful, and means so much. Many thanks

We kindly request that all outstanding debts for Late Stay and Breakfast Club be cleared before the new year. Access to these clubs will not recommence until these balances are settled. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Some of the debts are over £1000 now, and that is affecting staffing levels to be honest.

Separately, we also ask that any remaining debts for trips or residential activities be paid before the end of term. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Monday 6th July

The PTFA pulled off a phenomenal Fair at Christmas didn't they? Every single penny raised at that Fair. This year the PTFA have paid for:

Massive contribution to the Chapel

Thank you so much. This is something that we would have never achieved with the PTFA who raised funds for it, and then organised it - amazing. Further more if we had to spend money on the outdoors, then something from the school budget would have to give - perhaps a focus week? And that would be sad.

Raffle ticket have been sent home and we have some mega prizes......

We are always looking for new sponsors to provide prizes for our raffles. If you, or the company you work for are able to provide a suitable prize, please contact me, or any member of the PTFA!

Can you provide us with any cakes, or refreshments of any type to sell at the Fair?  These would be most gratefully received in school, on the Monday of the Fair. We did struggle with this at Christmas; I think it's a tradition that hasn't reignited post Covid. The cake stall previously a massive part of the Fair with all kinds of cakes sold. We really do rely on your donations here - so please, if you are able, can you do some baking please of anything - and send it in. If you can include the ingredients please that would be great, especially Nuts etc......

And finally… if nothing else; please come to school and support the PTFA in this major fundraising event!  The fair will open at 6.00pm, and will be phenomenal. I know how hard the PTFA are working. I   look forward to seeing you there!  Let’s hope for great summer weather….

Stalls will be outside, on the MUGA, like they were at Christmas. Refreshments in the hall; year 6 games will be on the MUGA and Junior Yard

There will also be Fair Rides which will be on  the Junior Yard

The ice cream van will be on the Junior Yard

Pony rides will be on the infant yard with other exciting stalls including Face paints, Henna and Tattoos.

You will be able to access the school hall from the Infant or Junior Yard, cutting through school if necessary!

We will be asking for volunteers to help us set up, ticket up etc, manage stalls etc and this is another occasion when we really do rely upon your help. I will ask naomi to do this via Forms, again like we did at Christmas.

As the kids move up a year group, there are some changes for the new years 3's.

Remember that you now need to pay for school meals - unless of course you're entitled to FSM. The Universal free school meals only apply to infant kids.

Remember to claim for free school meals even if you're in the infants - it does help the school budget out to be honest!

Year 3 School Meals

Leanne and the catering team prove that with the right people, the right determination, and by working together one can make a difference. This year, the number of kids having schools meals has been the highest we've ever known. Its been amazing. They do a stunning job in the kitchen.

As Year 2 children move into the juniors they will no longer be entitled to a universal free school meal. School meals for Junior kids will be charged at £3.00 (I think) per day from September. Junior kids have 4 choices, a meat choice, a veggie choice, a Jacket Potato or a grab and go sandwich bag. Your child can choose what they want each day, on the day, or pre book. Kids on school meals are given a coloured wristband that corresponds to their choice of food....

There is no increase to the cost of wraparound care in September.

Breakfast club will remain at £6.00 per session.

There are 2 charges for late stay - £6.00  if picked up before 4.30pm, and £8.00 for the 5.30pm pick up.

Year 6 Run Down

Y6 Production: Tuesday 14th July 7pm

This will take place in the School Hall - Year 6 children will be asked to arrive from 6:30 through the main reception doors. Each child will be given 2 tickets - please can the audience enter through the hall doors. There will be a short presentation after the performance for our Year 6 leavers.

The final Eucharist for the Year 6 kids will be held in school on WEdnesday 15th July as normal - of course the only difference being, if kids are now confirmed they can receive communion with us.

Y6 Duxbury golf and icecream:Thursday 10th July - Thanks PTFA!

Kids will be walking down having a packed lunch there, round of mini golf and an ice cream. Be back in time for the end of the day. More details will certainly come from G or Thomas.

Y6 disco and sleepover: Thursday 16th July Year 5/6 to come back to school at 7pm, and this will lead into the Year 6 sleepover....

Children to have their tea at home and then arrive in their disco gear, with their things for the sleepover and school uniform for their final day. Enter through the main office. They may also wish to pack a spare TShirt/jumper and a sharpie that can be signed by their friends on the final day. There will be snacks and drinks provided during the disco and normal school rules will apply on mobile phones, and of course smart watches - if they need it for the next day, we will keep it in the safe in the office overnight.

Please note: Y6 Teachers will sort out rooming for the kids - do not worry about this, it's our call!

Y6 Blessing: Friday 17th July 8.30am blessing

(All Year 6 Adults welcome) 8AM in school hall - enter through the hall doors. Sausage and Bacon Butties served and Fr Jordan will bless the Y6's before they begin their final day at St. G's. Please can adults take home all of their children's sleepover belongings at this time.

As mentioned above, the children will be able to sign a spare jumper/tshirt on the final day. Sharpies are the best to do this and we don't have any in school - please send your child in with a suitable permanent pen.

The children will be dismissed in the usual way at 3:15 on Friday 17th July. Please, as always, let us know if there are any changes in your child's dismissal.

As we wrap up this week, here’s something to ponder:

As we close the week, I keep thinking of that lovely line from The Beatles:

“Here comes the sun.”

And honestly, it feels about right.

Not just because the weather has been doing its best impression of southern Spain, but because there has been a real brightness around school this week in the kids, in the events, in the support from families, and in the quiet graft of staff making everything happen.

Weeks like this can be tiring. Hot, sticky, busy, slightly ridiculous at times. But they also remind us how much life there is in this place.

So thank you.

For turning up.
For cheering on.
For helping out.
For trusting us.
For being part of the wonderful, slightly sun-frazzled, deeply lovely community that is St George’s.

Have a brilliant weekend and may the sun shine just enough to enjoy it, but not so much that we all start eyeing up the sprinkler again.
