What a lovely week it has been in school, with lots of parents joining us and becoming part of the life of our school — something we absolutely love to see!

A huge thank you to all our Reception parents who joined us for our Early Reading and Maths Meeting on Tuesday. It was brilliant to see so many of you there. Safe to say, Carole and Lisa did an amazing job of explaining the beginning of your child’s St George’s journey and sharing how you can support them as they take these important first steps in their learning.

We were also delighted to welcome members of our PTFA to their first meeting on Thursday evening, and our wonderful parent volunteers have been in school throughout the week, giving up their time to read with children across school. This is so greatly appreciated and makes a real difference to our children.

As always, thank you. We really do value the relationships we build with our parents, whether that’s through the chats we have at drop-off and pick-up, a quick conversation at the end of the school day, or when you pop into the office to speak to us. All of these little moments help us to work together and ensure our children have the very best experience at St George’s. It has been lovely to see so many of you in school this week, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen these relationships throughout the year.

Church News

This Sunday there will be a very special 'Closer' service at All Saints' Church on Moor Road at 4pm.  We will be celebrating harvest, Bishop Philip will be speaking, and there will be a bit of a Jacob's Join at the end.  If you're able to bring something to share (or tins or packets for the food bank) that would be ace, but most importantly know you're welcome.

Meanwhile at St George's Sunday School is now up and running each week during the service - just bring your children to the church hall in the run up to 9:30 and they will come into church at the peace.  Sunday School is weekly in term time except for third Sundays when its all-age communion all together in church.

A reminder that any remaining church attendance sheets for those applying for St Michael's for 2027 should be handed in asap.  Please take a copy first and hand them in in an envelope to the churchwardens.  Any year 4 parents who may be applying to St Michael's and haven't yet done so please pick up an attendance sheet from church and start getting your attendances verified.

🎄 PTFA Christmas Fair – We Need Your Help! 🎄

🎁 Raffle Prize Donations

Could you, someone you know, or a local business donate a prize for our PTFA Christmas Fair raffle?

We would be incredibly grateful for any donation, big or small. Prizes could include gift vouchers, hampers, Christmas gifts, experiences, or anything else you think families might enjoy.

If you, someone you know, or a local business would be happy to donate a prize, please let the PTFA know l.thomas@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk . Your support is greatly appreciated and will help us raise valuable funds for our school.

🎅 Thank you for supporting our PTFA and helping us make our Christmas Fair a wonderful event for our school community! 🎄

Year 1 Reading Books

One of our key aims is to support and guide children throughout their reading journey and, most importantly, to develop a lifelong love of reading. To help children become fluent and confident readers, phonics teaching is at the heart of our approach. From Monday, Year 1 children will bring home a phonics book that is closely matched to the phonics phase they are currently working on. They will no longer bring home a 'Home Reader'. The phonics book will contain sounds and words that your child has already been taught and is familiar with, allowing them to practise their skills and build confidence. We ask that you read this book together for around 10 minutes each evening and record details of your reading in your child’s reading record. An adult in school will change your child’s phonics book twice a week; your class teacher will let you know which days this will happen. Alongside their phonics book, children in Key Stage 1 will also have the opportunity to visit the school library each week and choose a book to bring home. This library book is an opportunity to share stories, enjoy books together and develop a genuine love of reading, so please feel free to read it to your child, talk about the pictures and characters, and enjoy it together. Thank you for your continued support in helping us nurture confident, fluent and enthusiastic readers.

Muddy Monday Reminder - This Monday!

On these days the children can come to school in forest school kit, with a spare pair of shoes to wear indoors. We also encourage children to bring a trowel and gardening gloves to use during the day.

We always love parent helpers on these days and it really does help with the heavy lifting. Please let Sharon know at the office or email Emma e.smith@st-georges.lancs.sch.uk.

The dates for this academic year are…

Online Learning Logins and Passwords

Online learning resources can be a valuable way to support and extend the learning that takes place in school. Many of the resources we use link closely with and complement the work happening in the classroom, while also giving parents the opportunity to be involved in and support their child’s learning at home. Logins for Seesaw, Timetables Rockstars and EdShed are now stuck inside your child’s reading record. These stickers will replace last year’s blue booklet, so please keep the reading record somewhere safe and accessible.
